She was born to Allen L. and Gracie M. (Pickard) Arnold, in Newburgh, Maine, on February 1, 1932. She was born, raised, lived a long life and passed away on the same property in Newburgh, as was her wish. Donna was very musical, playing several instruments and she truly enjoyed old-time Country and Western music. She also enjoyed dancing, which brought joy to her heart through her feet. Donna worked manufacturing slippers with the Evans Shoe Company on Mayo Road in Hampden for 25 years. Donna enjoyed snowmobiling in her younger years and taking long drives as she aged. Donna and Mel shared their love of the outdoors with their children, taking them camping, fishing and hunting, and adventures they remember fondly to this day. Donna especially enjoyed gardening, tending flowers and harvesting vegetables. She was an excellent candle pin bowler, participating in many bowling leagues and winning several championships. Donna is survived by her brother, Charles Elwyn Arnold of Belvedere, North Carolina; children, Lawrence Nickerson and his wife, Deborah, of Newburgh, Maine, Sharon Filipowicz and her husband, Stephen, of Amarillo, Texas, Paula Frank and her partner, Wayne Gregory, of Belfast, Maine, Linda Leach and her husband, Tom, of Orland, Maine, and Joyce Deal and her husband, Jean, of Lincolnville, Maine; ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two nieces. In addition to her parents, Donna was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Melville Nickerson. At Donna's request, services will be private. Her and Mel's interment will be at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden, in spring 2025."
