[30771] "The Perry County Democrat [New Bloomfield, PA], 19 October 1910," p. 3: "Death of Wm. H. Minnick, Esq. - William H. Minnick, one of the prominent old citizens of this county, died at his home in Newport at half past eight o'clock Sunday night, within twenty-four hours after his daughter, Mrs. Mary Kier, ended her life. However, the death of his daughter had nothing to do with his demise, as he was not told of it, his condition being such that it was feared the shock would hasten his end. The cause of Mr. Minick's death was acute indigestion and heart failure. He was ill only a few days. He was aged about 77 years. William H. Minick was a son of Daniel Minich. His mother's maiden name was Crozier. He was born and grew to manhood at Loysville. When a young man he taught school and on the breaking out of the Civil War enlisted August 13, 1862, in Company H, 133rd Regiment, under Capt. David L. Tressler. After the war Mr. Minick was for eighteen months superintendent of the Tressler Orphans' Home, which was conducted at that time as a soldiers' orphan school. For the past thirty-five years he had been living in Newport, where he was engaged in the brokerage business, in which he was very successful, having amassed a considerable estate. He was married to Sarah A. Tressler, daughter of the late Col. John Tressler, of Loysville. They had two daughters--Mary (Mrs. Kier) and Emma (Mrs. Arthur Scott). Mrs. Minnick died last winter, since which time his daughters have been at home with him. They were devoted to him and he to them. Two brothers survive -- Andrew Minich of Wheatfield township, and Joseph of Cumberland county. The deceased was possessed of many excellent qualities, among which were his care for dumb animals, and for years past he had been an agent of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He was a public spirited man and was always a liberal contributor to all worthy enterprises. He was a Democrat of the old school, a loyal supporter of Democratic primcipals and was ever ready to assist his party. He was the Democratic nominee for Congress in this district some years ago. Like most of us, Mr. Minick may have had his faults, but he also had many good traits of character. The good he did will live after him; all else should be covered with the mantle of charity. His funeral was held this afternoon and was private. He was buried with the rites of the G.A.R., to which he belonged."
