John, the faithful pastor of the Pilgrims of Plymouth Rock, was one of the most remarkable men that Gloucester ever produced - of great strength and personal courage. He was a ship-master and builder of vessels - built the first schooner-rigged vessel, and gave that name to that class of vessels.
