[55838] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 20 February 2024: "Bar Harbor and Bangor - Ruth A. Bracy, 93 and 4 months old, died unexpectedly, after a brief illness, January 20, 2024, at a Bangor hospital, surrounded by family and loved ones. She was born October 28, 1930, in Winn, ME, the daughter of Herbert Grant and Ella Perkins. Ruth was a loving mother, wife and homemaker, who lived in Bar Harbor and Bangor, with her husband, Karl, for many years as they raised their 3 children. She enjoyed cooking and at 92 she was still making homemade banana bread and mac and cheese which was amazing. Ruth loved to read a good book and watch CNN. Ruth also loved to spend time with her loved ones and visits from the fur babies. Ruth spent her past few years with her second family enjoying BBQ's, holidays, many long shopping trips and going out to dinner. Ruth enjoyed living her life to the fullest every day and was always smiling. Ruth was predeceased by her loving husband, Karl Bracy; her daughter, Joann Smith; and her son, Michael Bracy. She is survived by son, Bob Bracy. Mama Ruthie (lovingly known by the Whitney family) will be greatly missed by Kathy, Gloria, Bob, Robbie, Barbara, Eric, Heather, Stephenie and Nicholas."

[40172] See notes for husband William Cooper. Ancestry.com offers: "Porter Name Meaning - English and Scottish: occupational name for the gatekeeper of a walled town or city, or the doorkeeper of a great house, castle, or monastery, from Middle English porter 'doorkeeper', 'gatekeeper' (Old French portier). The office often came with accommodation, lands, and other privileges for the bearer, and in some cases was hereditary, especially in the case of a royal castle. As an American surname, this has absorbed cognates and equivalents in other European languages, for example German Pförtner (see Fortner) and North German Poertner. English: occupational name for a man who carried loads for a living, especially one who used his own muscle power rather than a beast of burden or a wheeled vehicle. This sense is from Old French porteo(u)r (Late Latin portator, from portare 'to carry or convey'). Dutch: occupational name from Middle Dutch portere 'doorkeeper'. Compare 1. Dutch: status name for a freeman (burgher) of a seaport, Middle Dutch portere, modern Dutch poorter."
