[28963] Susan's obituary: "Word was received at Shelby yesterday morning that Mrs. Adam Weiser had died at Fostoria, whither she had gone on a visit. Mrs. W. had been afflicted by a cancerous growth in one of her eyes, and the eye and tumor had been successfully removed last spring, but of late the cancer returned and it is supposed caused her death. Mrs. W. was one of the pioneers of Richland County and was highly respected. The remains will be brought to her home at Shelby today and the funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at London Lutheran Church, to which denomination the deceased belonged. Mrs. Weiser formerly lived in the adjoining township of Cass and was, a near neighbor of Jacob Sheeley, who died on the same day and whose funeral will also take place tomorrow at London Church. [56548] Janet's obituary: "Winter Harbor - Janet Chase Fickett, 85, died on January 27, 2018. She was born on April 28, 1932, in Winter Harbor, the daughter of E. Francis and Florence Willey Chase. Janet attended Ellsworth and Winter Harbor High Schools, class of 1949. She was married to Stanley W. Fickett until his death in 1981. They had five children. As a young woman, Janet was a member of the Grange, Eastern Star, PTA, and Chamber of Commerce. She was one of the organizers of the first Winter Harbor Lobster Festival. She was her father's right hand when he owned and operated Chase's Restaurant. Janet's love of dancing, singing, knitting, and cooking are well known. Her family will always remember her for baked beans with her homemade brown bread on Saturday nights and her almost famous chocolate midnight cake and deviled eggs at family gatherings. In retirement, she spent many happy hours doing crossword puzzles, knitting, playing Bingo and Bridge. For many years Janet had fun riding her moped, playing the piano, and picnicking with friends and family. She was a lifelong resident of Winter Harbor and loved it very much. She always said, 'Why would anyone want to live anywhere else?' Janet is survived by her children, Cynthia Alley and her husband, Jeff, Beth Winter and her husband, Emil, Patricia Robinson and her husband, Skip, David Fickett and his wife, Liz, and Paul Fickett and his wife, Christy. Janet was proud to be the grandmother of 15, Jeffrey, Megan, Amanda, Angela, Christy, Leslie, Sarah, Nicholas, Caroline, Molly, Samuel, Israel, Jonathan, Kyle, and Liam, and 17 great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Rhiannon, Ainsley, Andrew, Emmett, Isaac, Hunter, Katie, Brady, Merit, Madeline, William, Anthony, Oliver, Aoife, Seamus, and Bella. She is survived by her sisters, Diane Guthrie of Ellsworth, Shirley Chase of Winter Harbor, her sister-in-law, Arlene Benedict of Steuben, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Janet was predeceased by her parents, her husband, brother, Edward, and brother-in-law, Tom Guthrie."

She was born in Charleston on March 18, 1934, the daughter of Harold M. and Hazel Crossman Strout. She graduated from Higgins Classical Institute in 1952. Carole's first job was working for Woodrow Cross taking care of his family and working in his store. She was later employed by King's and Kresge's Dept. Store before working alongside her husband, Lewis, operating Bob's Hardware, which was named for their son. Carole enjoyed homemaking in their Maine and Florida homes, and travels shared during retirement with her husband up and down the east coast. She also enjoyed socializing, knitting, jig saw puzzles, bingo, and cards with many friends and family. Carole was a devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lewis L. Smith Jr.; sisters, Charlotte and Mickey Simmons, and Marilyn Scribner; nephew, Harold Simmons; brothers and sisters-in-law, Glennyse and Ernie Legeza, Berdena Strout, Irene and Orrin Wade, Shirley and Elden Clark, Donald Smith, Amaryl Smith, and Roger Whitehead. Carole is survived by one son, Robert W. and friend, Jan Hill, of Bangor; two daughters, LuAnn and Bruce Tibbetts of Dover-Foxcroft, and Kim and David Roberts of Brewer; devoted friend and forever daughter, Maria Thibodeau; grandchildren, Jessica and Gerald Kelly of Orrington, Bobbie Sue and Scott Dobberstein of Brandon, England, Stephanie Burby and friend, Matt Winslow, of Belgrade, Matthew and Mandy Tibbetts of Dover-Foxcroft, Melissa and Phil Cadieux of Corinth, Molly and Chris Rogers of Gardiner, Kaleb and Ashely Roberts of San Antonio, TX, and Kasie and Tom Kinney of Wells, ME; great-grandchildren, Robert Batron, Sarah Burby, Parker Kelly, Noah Burby, Karson Tibbetts, Bryce Cadieux, Claire Cadieux, Phoenix Rose Roberts, Andrew Rogers and Addison Rogers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert Smith, Norman Smith and friend, Myrna, Barbara Whitehead, Virginia and Gary Bryer, Sheldon and Rita Smith, and Nancy Smith; and special family friends, Roger and Trudy Bryce, and Diane, Don, and Corey Nason."
