Burial will be in the church cemetery. . . . Mr. Haas died Saturday evening at the Friendly Nursing Home, Pitman RD1, where he was a resident since Feb. 16. Born in Klingerstown RD1, Aug. 8, 1897, he was a son of the late Simon P. and Emma (Seiler) Haas. He was married to the former Helen L. Erdman in 1921. Mr. Haas was a retired farmer and a former Pennsylvania Department of Highways foreman for 30 years. He was last employed at the Mandata Poultry Plant, Herndon RD1, until he retired in 1981. He was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ and Sunday school, Klingerstown RD1, and also served on the church consistory for many years. He was educated in the Upper Mahantongo Schools, where he later served as a school director for 12 years. He was also a fire warden for Upper Mahantongo area for 65 years and served as a Republican committeeman for 50 years. He was a member of the Klingerstown Fire Company, Mahantongo Fire Company, Herndon F&AM Masonic Lodge and Harrisburg Consistory. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Donald E. and Harry A. Jr., both of Klingerstown RD1; three grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; and a brother, Lloyd of Harrisburg. One brother and one sister preceded him in death."

Steve was born June 28, 1950 at Ickesburg to the late Clarence and Kathryn Stewart Rice. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Reisinger. He worked at the Book of The Month Club in Mechanicsburg and had worked at the Berwick Power Plant and TMI in Middletown. He was a 1969 graduate of West Perry High School. He loved to barbecue and cook and enjoyed gardening and his fish pond. Surviving are a daughter, Tracey L. Bertin and her husband Douglas of Manheim, 2 grandchildren, Darren and Rachel Bertin, six brothers, Calvin and wife Gladys of Carlisle, Don and wife Margie of Loysville, Dean and wife Vickey of Landisburg, Fred and wife Lucille of Ickesburg, Jack of Dauphin and Larry of Ickesburg, four sisters, Mary Bernhisel and husband Ron and Anna Ruth Peterson and husband Ray, all of Mifflintown, Bonnie Benner and husband Bob of Duncannon and Winnifred Flickinger, Blain, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM Wednesday, February 27, 2008 in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 6968 Veteran's Way, Ickesburg with the Rev. Elaine Moyer officiating. West, 78, of 1106 Westgate Drive and formerly of 201 School House Hill Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 1994, in the emergency room of Chambersburg Hospital. Born Oct. 19, 1915, in Fayetteville, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Nora Stoner West. He was a plumber in the Public Works Department at Letterkenny Army Depot, retiring in 1976. A veteran of World War II, he served as a tank crewman in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Mount Union United Methodist Church, Fayetteville; Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 Veterans of Foreign Wars; Landis-McCleaf Detachment of the Marine Corps League; Loyal Order of Moose 842; Detrich-Brechbill Post 612 American Legion; La Societe Des 40 Hommes Et 8 Chevaux; and Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Company. Surviving are his wife, Harriet A. Piper West, whom he married Aug. 17, 1940; a son, Joel L. of Fayetteville; a granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Frances Heindel of Chambersburg and Reba Kohler of Menno Haven; a brother, Max H. of Chambersburg; and nieces and nephews. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home Inc., 333 Falling Spring Road. The Rev. Dr. Robert D. Verno will officiate. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight in the funeral home. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery with military graveside services by VFW Post 1599."

[14486] "The Boston Globe [Boston, Massachusetts], 3 September 1892," p. 8: "Holbrook, Mass., Sept. 3. Mr. Lemuel S. Whitcomb, of the firm of Whitcomb & Paine, a prominent shoe manufacturer of this town, died at 2.40 o'clock yesterday afternoon, after a short illness. Deceased was bom in Holbrook (then East Randolph) in 1826. He entered the public schools and finished about the time he was 18 years of age. He then joined his father, with whom he continued for about six months. At the age of 19 he entered into the shoe manufacturing business with his brother-in-law, Mr. White, and continued under the firm name of White & Whitcomb for a number of years. Finally the firm dissolved, and about 1865 Mr. Whitcomb formed a partnership with Mr. Charles H. Paine, under the firm name of Whitcomb & Paine, in which he continued up to the time of his death. Mr. Whitcomb was one of the most prominent men in the town of Holbrook. The funeral will take place on Sunday, at 3 p m., when the remains will be interred in the Union cemetery."
