[48738] A note with file KZR8-QQG in familysearch.org stattes "Not much is known about Susanna Haskell Eaton from our family. In 'A Maine Town in the Civil War' by Vernal Hutchinson, 1957, he writes on page 66 that Isaiah Eaton died soon after he was wounded on the field of Gettsyburg. "He was married, the father of four small children. His widow soon remarried; the children were put out for adoption. They would never have the chance to grow up as brothers and sisters." I can only see that this was such a tragedy of war and it's effect on not only this family but many others as well. One has to survive!"

The son of James Rogers & Elizabeth Rowland, Samuel married Mary Stanton on November 19, 1662. The marriage ws blessed with nine children.
In 1680, Samuel became the first english settler of Mohegan CT. He had, for many years, been a close friend of Uncas, Chief of the Mohegans. Uncas and his son, Owaneco, gave him lands on Saw Mill Brook, in consideration of friendship and services rendered. At his death, he owned many large tracts of land. (Mohegan is presently known as Montville, CT )
History of Montville, Connecticut, By Henry Augustus Baker, Published, 1896, Page 178:
II. SAMUEL (2), b. 12 Dec., 1640, eldest son of James Rogers. and Elizabeth Rowland; married 17 Oct., 1664~ Mary, daughter of Thomas Stanton and Ann Lord, daughter of Thomas, Lord of Hartford. The parents of these two parties entered into a formal contract, each pledging Ð200 as a marriage portion to the couple.
James Rogers, the father of Samuel,in fulfillment of his part of the contract, conveyed to his son his stone house and bakery at the head of Winthrop's Cove, where the couple commenced housekeeping. They lived there only a few years and removed to the outlands of the town in the vicinity of the Mohegan tribe of Indians, and became the first English settlers within the present limits of the town of Montville.
He was twice married, so appears by his last will, executed Dec. 8, 1712, in which he gives "his beloved wife Johanna all she needs." He died 1 Dec., 1713, and was buried in the Old Rogers Burying Ground on the farm where he then lived, and which was afterwards owned by Oliver Baker.
