[8965] Alice m. Clifford Jenkins and had Merle Jenkins (r. Shelby, OH), Dale Jenkins and Darwin Jenkins. "News-Journal [Mansfield, Ohio], 23 June 1967," p. 11: "A Shelby woman became Richland County's 13th traffic fatality of 1967 yesterday afternoon and a Bellville teenager is in 'fair to poor' condition in General Hospital following a separate crash near his home 20 minutes later. Dead is Mrs. Alice C. Jenkins, 53, of Dinninger Rd. The driver of the other car in the fatal accident, James N. Powers, 24, also of Shelby, was arrested by patrolmen for driving without an operators license and passing at an intersection. He is listed in 'good' condition at Shelby Memorial Hospital with left hand and rib injuries. Patrolmen said Powers was passing a car which was following Mrs. Jenkins. When Mrs. Jenkins made a left turn onto Dinninger Rd., her car was hit broadside. The fatal mishap happened at 3:20 p.m. at the intersection of Dinninger Rd. and State Route 61. Born in Cardington September 5, 1913, she had lived most of her life in the Shelby area and had worked as a housekeeper at Shelby Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the Delphi Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband Clifford; three sons, Donald Merle, Darwin Eugene and Harry Dale, all of Shelby; her father, Frank A. Evans of Mansfield; two brothers, Harley Evans of Mentor and James Evans of Shelby; two sisters, Mrs. Gilbert Belsterli of Shelby and Mrs. John Burda of Willard; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Barkdull Funeral Home, Shelby, with burial in Oakland Cemetery."
[7742] David Fletcher of Richmond, VA offered via email in July, 2003: "Maude Fletcher was a daughter of Henry Clay Fletcher and Judith Means Fletcher, both of Bedford Co., PA. Maude, along with her younger sister Ada, and brother Homer, were the three children of Henry Clay and Judith that survived. Older siblings Isabelle and Leonard had died as infants in Everett, PA, where the family lived prior to relocating to Brownsville. The Fletcher line I know quite well (German origins, believe it or not; anglicized in the mid-1700s); the Means line I have a little less on. The Fletcher family's original spelling was "Floesser," and hailed from the mountains near Heidelberg. As an unexpected sidelight, immigrant Jacob Floesser's wife was Anna Margaretha Reichardt, not too dissimilar to the Rickard predecessors, I should think. I was in Heidelberg last Spring, and the Floesser family persists even today...not plentiful, but they're still there."

[7403] Shirley is daughter of James Henry. She and David r. New Germantown, Perry Co., PA where she was a member of the United Methodist Church. She was employed a Carlisle Tire & Rubber, P. R. Hoffman Crystal Plant (Carlisle), Stuckey's Donuts and the Harrisburg Dress Shop. She was survived by daughter Diane and son David E. (both of New Germantown) and foster children Anna Mae Zimmerman of Newville, Nancy Millisivic of Newport and Clyde and Lawrence Smith, both of New Germantown, and nine grandchildren. Ancestry.com offers: "Henry Name Meaning - English and French: from a Germanic personal name composed of the elements haim, heim 'home' + ric 'power', 'ruler', introduced to England by the Normans in the form Henri. During the Middle Ages this name became enormously popular in England and was borne by eight kings. Continental forms of the personal name were equally popular throughout Europe (German Heinrich, French Henri, Italian Enrico and Arrigo, Czech Jindrich, etc.). As an American family name, the English form Henry has absorbed patronymics and many other derivatives of this ancient name in continental European languages. (For forms, see Hanks and Hodges 1988.) In the period in which the majority of English surnames were formed, a common English vernacular form of the name was Harry, hence the surnames Harris (southern) and Harrison (northern). Official documents of the period normally used the Latinized form Henricus. In medieval times, English Henry absorbed an originally distinct Old English personal name that had hagan 'hawthorn'. Compare Hain 2 as its first element, and there has also been confusion with Amery. Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó hInnéirghe 'descendant of Innéirghe', a byname based on éirghe 'arising'. Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Éinrí or Mac Einri, patronymics from the personal names Éinrí, Einri, Irish forms of Henry. It is also found as a variant of McEnery."
