He was born April 2, 1929 in Cherryfield, the son of the late Harry and Marian (Robbins) Leighton. Jake will be remembered as a hard worker. He spent most of his life working as a woodsman and in later years he worked in construction. Jake is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Jackie Leighton; a daughter, Jeanne Leighton of Eddington; grandchildren Amy Taylor and husband, Roger, James Leighton and wife, Jessica, and Richard Leighton, all of Milbridge; daughter-in-law, Marie Leighton of Milbridge; greatgrandchildren, Tyler, Joseph, Isaac, Madison, Michael and James, Jr.; siblings, Charlotte Shai of Massachusetts, Carroll Leighton and wife, Betty, of Glenburn, and Myron Leighton and wife, Betty, of Cherryfield; many nieces and nephews and several special friends. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Leighton; three sisters and six brothers."
