He had been affected with heart disease for some time, but his death was entirely unexpected. He was 66 years old, last October, and for the most of his life has been connected with the business and social life of Machias. He was a member of the firm of Foster & Bryant, operating a planing mill. He Was much interested in Masonary being a Past Master of Harawood lodge F. and A. M, Past High Priest of Washington R. A. Chapter, Past Commander of St. Elmo Commandery, Knights Templar, an officer of Delta lodge of Perfection, and of Deering council. Princes of Jerusalem. He was the first patron of Machias chapter O. E. S. of which Mrs. Foster was the first matron, and at the time of his death was master of Machias Valley grange, performing his duties as such Friday night. He was a consistent Democrat in politics, had been candidate for sheriff and clerk of courts, and served as deputy under Sheriff Jefferson M. Swett.
