He was born November 12, 1948 in Mansfield to Robert Glenn and Dorothy Mae (Farst) Heichel, was graduated from Clear Fork High School in 1966, and remained a lifelong Bellville area resident. Dan served with the U.S. Air Force, and retired with 20 years of service with the Ohio Air National Guard's 179th Air Wing. For 28 years, he worked in the General Motors plant in Ontario, most recently in the truck repair department. Dan was a life member and Past Commander of Irvin Hiskey Post #535 American Legion in Bellville, and Past Commander of Richland County American Legion Council. He also served as Past Commander of the Sons of American Legion, as well as Past District Commander of Sons of American Legion, and was a life member of William O. Naylor Post #43 AMVETS, Bellville. Dan's strong devotion to the Legion extended to the community ~ faithfully marching in holiday parades ~ exhibiting his stalwart loyalty and patriotism. He always kept busy, whether it was working around the house, mushroom hunting or gardening; or on a bowling or horseshoe pitching event. His sense of humor could always make you laugh, and his adventurous spirit led him to his favorite casino, The Mountaineer. All these activities may have captured Dan's attention, but his love for his family captured his heart. He is survived by his wife Kathy (Fry) Heichel, whom he married March 17, 1995; a son Troy Heichel of Bellville; a daughter Melanie Heichel of Bellville, a daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Shawn Davis of Fredericktown, a daughter Deborah Miller of Bellville; four grandchildren Madison Gatena, Briana Davis, Joshua Davis and Samantha Shafer; two brothers and sisters-in-law Donald and Judy Heichel of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and David and Pat Heichel of Lexington; four nephews Rob Heichel, Jim Heichel, Todd Heichel and Joe Heichel; and a large extended family."

He married Mary Wright in 1595 and was the father by her of Janes, William and Margaret. Of these, William resided in Essex County and left issue there by his wife of a son - Sir William Scroggs, who married Anne, daughter of Edward Fettiplace of Berkshire. Sir William was the father of another Sir William as well as of two daughters, Anne and Elizabeth. The son owned land is Essex, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire and was knighted in 1581. His first wife, Mary, daughter of Sir John Churchill, died only a year after her marriage, without issue. His second wife was Anne, daughter of Matthew Bluck in 1685.
