James was Keeper of the Castle of Newcastle-under-Lyme, Justiciar of Ireland, and Sheriff of Salop (Shropshire) on the border between England and Wales (one of the difficult border assignments). James was of Heleigh, Staffordshire. The unverified http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pmcbride/james/f020.htm#T62 offers: "James de Alditheley was a great favorite of Richard, Earl of Cornwall, at whose coronation as King of Almaine (Germany) he assisted. He had livery of his lands in the 31st year of King Henry III, and was constituted in two years afterwards constable of Newcastle-under-Lyne. Being one the lords-marchers he was actively employed for some years against the Welsh, and was appointed governor of the castles of Salop and Bridgenorth, and sheriff of the counties of Salop and Stafford. He was the Justice of Chester, sealed 1259. In the 47th year of Henry III, he was made Justice of Ireland; and in the same year, upon the misunderstanding between the king and the barons, regarding the provisions of Oxford, being referred to the arbitration of monarch of France, he was one of the noblemen who undertook for the king therein. The next year we find him with Roger de Mortimer and the other barons-marchers, giving battle to Llewellyn, Prince of Wales, and afterwards joining the Earl of Gloucester at Evesham in rescuing the king, who had become captive to the Earl of Leicester at the battle of Lewes. In the 52nd year of Henry III, he performed a pilgrimage to the shrine of St. James in Galicia, in Spain, and the following year embarked in the Crusade with the king and Prince Edward." [45913] "Battle Creek Enquirer [Battle Creek, Michigan], 27 August 2003," p. 4: "Georgia Day, 101, of Coldwater, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003, at the Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater. Memorial Services will be held Friday, August 29, 2003, 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 52 Marshall Street, Coldwater, for Georgia Day, with Dr. James Troust officiating. Mrs. Day was born August 23, 1901, in Sanilac County, Michigan, to Rev. George and Myra Grant Georgia. She was graduated from Croswell High School, then attended Michigan State Normal (Eastern Michigan University) and Cleary Business College at the same time, earning simultaneous degrees in business and education. She taught at Union City High School for five years, spending one exciting summer vacation in New York City working as a Kelly Girl, enjoying plays and sight seeing. She married Ralph Day, June 27, 1926, and they moved to Battle Creek in 1927. The daughter of two ministers, Mrs. Day was a woman who lived a life of great faith. She was active in the Lakeview Baptist Church, having taught Church School classes for forty-five years. She also substituted in the Lakeview School System and taught night school classes in the Battle Creek School System. Georgia was a creative soul - a pastel and watercolor artist and talented seamstress. She loved to garden and was an avid bird watcher. Her grandchildren remember with delight the long-stemmed, deep purple violets that grew in masses in her garden in Battle Creek. She shared her love of art and nature with her family. She was a loving parent, grandparent and a devoted spouse. She had a knack for making each of her grandchildren feel special. Georgia and her husband Ralph spent many winters in Arizona and Florida enjoying sunshine and no snow. While in Florida they attended Detroit Tigers spring training games. She remained an enthusiastic Tiger fan. In 1977, she and her husband moved to Coldwater. They both became members of the First Presbyterian Church and she continued teaching church school for a time. She was a Deacon from 1985 to 1988, and was also active in the church women's circles. Georgia was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Anna Leah Schlappi, her husband, Ralph and her son-in-law, Donald Reppert. She will be remembered by her daughter, Georgann Reppert, grandchildren, Ralph and Jane Reppert, Katherine Reppert, Muriel and Gerry Hice, Joy and Darwin Maurer, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many friends."
