[57003] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 25 February 2022: "Bangor - Charles F. Hatch, 74, died peacefully at the Maine Veteran's Home in Bangor, on February 19, 2022. Charlie was the first child born to Charles Ernest Hatch and Ethel (Moore) Hatch on September 30, 1947, in Bangor. Charlie graduated from Bangor High School. After graduation he was drafted into the United States Army. Upon completing his basic training at Fort Dix, he received advance training in communications. His orders then sent him to Vietnam where he was assigned to Long Binh, the largest United States army base in the country at that time, and a major command and logistics center. At Long Binh, Charlie specialized in computer communications for the First Signal Brigade. He took great pride in his work and was very good at it. 'It was really the best part of my life. I was dedicated to my work and I achieved what I was there to do.' For his outstanding service, Charlie was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. Except for a temporary assignment at the Cambodian border, he was stationed at Long Binh. Charlie served two tours in Vietnam leaving the U.S. Army with the rank of Specialist Fifth Class. Charlie was very active in service groups; with his kind heart he was especially dedicated to supporting veteran causes. When asked about the war Charlie's comment was a quote from war hero John McCain, 'It was a just and noble cause.' The family would like to express their deepest and sincerest thanks to the staff at the Maine Veteran's Home for their compassionate, kind and excellent care extended to Charlie. They are all heroes caring for heroes. Surviving is Charlie's one brother, William and wife, Linda Hatch, of Hermon; two nephews, Ryan and wife, Jennifer Hatch, and their children of Tampa, FL, and Scott and wife, Erin Hatch, and their children of Hermon. He was predeceased by his father and mother; two nephews; and twin brothers, Mason and Marshall Hatch."
