[17569] Charles Trafton was captured by the Abenaquis and taken to Canada in May 1693 at the age of 12. He was baptised at Montreal 12 september 1694 as Charles Louis Marie , and entered the services of his godfather, Count Louis de Buade de Frontenac, governor of Canada. Records of this baptism are said to be on file at Notre Dame church in Montreal. He returned to York at about the time of his fathers death.
