[54111] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 9 December 1975, p. 17: "Castine - August Flamman, 85, died Dec. 8 at a Blue Hill hospital. He was born June 1, 1890 at Mt. Vernon, N.Y., the son of the Rev. August and Louise (Weynnd) Flamman. He was a well-known Castine lawyer. Admitted to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court at Ellsworth before the Hon. Justice Robert Williamson, the presiding justice, Arnold L. Veague sponsored Mr. Flamman's admission. His father was a Methodist minister. He had been a member of the New York bar since 1913. He was admitted at the age of 23. During the same year he was elected to the New York state legislature and was its youngest member. He served in the New York legislature from 1914 to 1917 inclusive. Thereafter, he was assistant district attorney in Brooklyn, N.Y. The practice act governing civil procedure in the courts was prepared by a legislative commission of which Mr. Flamman was a member and its secretary. Mr Flamman conducted a general practice in New York City for more than 50 years. He had been particularly active in zoning, preparing ordinances and legislation for many Long Island villages. In this work he was associated with the Hon. Edward Bassett, the father of zoning. Mr. Flamman was also a member of the Massachusetts bar since 1923. He was a second selectman of the Town of Castine for one year and was married to the former Kathleen (Wardwell) Bartlett of North Castine where he maintained a law office since 1966. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge, past president of the Hardware Square Club of New York City and a member of the Methodist Church. He is survived by his widow, Kathleen Bartlett of North Castine; one sister, Mrs. Laura A. Schonburg of New York City and several niece,s nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at the Castine Federated Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Charles Dartnell officiating. Burial will be in the Castine Cemetery."
