[57630] Ruth's obituary: "Rockland - Ruth Bunker Ellis, 84, died unexpectedly, Sunday, April 15, 2007 at her Jameson Point home. Born September 2, 1922, in Calais, Maine she was the daughter of Willard Bunker, MD and Kate Weeks Bunker. Her childhood was spent in Calais and in the nearby village of Red Beach where she lived with her parents and two older sisters. She began her education at Oak Grove High School, later transferring to and graduating from Ricker High School. Following graduation, Ruth studied Sociology at University of Maine, Orono. Ruth met her husband, Edward M. Ellis of York, Maine, while at U of M when he tipped his chair back and literally fell onto her desk. The two married June 2, 1943 in Orono. They resided there for one year before Mr. Ellis joined the Marines Corps and served in World War II in the Pacific Theater. Upon her husband's return from the war, the couple moved to York where they built their home and raised their family. Although her education was in sociology, Ruth enjoyed working beside her husband at the family insurance agency, The Ellis Agency in York. In 1968 Ruth began working at York Hospital where she established the first social work program. A lover of the sea, Mrs. Ellis enjoyed sailing up and down the coast of Maine with her husband and many dear friends. Upon Mr. Ellis' death, Mrs. Ellis moved to Rockland where she was very active as a volunteer at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in the Escort Department. She had a generous spirit and enjoyed doing things for others. She was the first to welcome new neighbors to the Jameson Point community with a homemade casserole and loved entertaining friends and family in her home. Nature conservation and enjoying the outdoors was particularly important to her. She worked passionately for the preservation of Maine lighthouses, and the health of Rockland Harbor. With a pair of binoculars always at the ready, Mrs. Ellis kept a watchful eye on Rockland Harbor from her living room, assisting the Coast Guard on more than one occasion. She dedicated a granite bench to her husband's memory and planted beach roses at the base of the Rockland Breakwater; a gentle suggestion to passersby to 'rest and be thankful.' Mrs. Ellis was a friend to all animal 'creatures', which included a faithful (and well-fed) seagull and a pair of nesting osprey in her backyard. She was known in Rockland as the 'lady with the golden retriever.' She could often be seen with her dog 'Duffy' on the breakwater or greeting the schooner 'Lewis R. French' as it arrived in port. She also took 'Duffy' to local nursing homes to visit patients. Ruth was also an avid traveler. In the 1980s she toured such far flung destinations as Iceland, Greenland, the Galapagos Islands, Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union. Big Band music was another of Ruth's passions. She rarely missed a Sunday evening dance concert with Stan Cattell's Down East Jazz Society at the Samoset Resort. Predeceased by her husband, Ruth is survived by two sisters Madelyn Russ of Cape Elizabeth, Katherine Pew of Brunswick; her three children, Timothy Bunker Ellis of Cape Neddick, Kate Wicker and her husband Larry of York Beach, Marcia Stewart and her husband John of South Bristol; seven grandchildren, Christine Roggenbusch and her husband Robert of Freemont, California, Benjamin Bunker Ellis and his wife Jennifer of Cape Neddick, Richmond Wicker of York Beach, Matthew Wicker of Charlestown, Massachusetts, Rebecca Wicker and her fiancee Vince Salemi of Danbury, Connecticut, Erica Stewart and her husband Lance Baldwin of Washington, D.C., Samuel C. Stewart of Round Pond; and seven great-grandchildren Zachary, Jacob and Noah of Freemont, California, Benjamin, Tressa and Christine of Cape Neddick, and Elias Baldwin of Washington, D.C."

"The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, ME], 23 October 2020": "Lewis P. Hutchins, 84 of Blue Hill, passed away on Oct. 19, 2020, after a long battle with various medical issues. He was born in Rockland on July 16, 1936. He attended schools in Bucksport, graduating in 1955.
He was an experienced curmudgeon by the time he was 60, so lived the last 24 years of his life perfecting the craft. He was most commonly found somewhere on the dirt roads of Washington County with a dog at his side. HIs objective in those years was to see how many trees and rocks he could use to put dents in his truck, rising to master level in this area.
Lew was most proud of his time in the Maine State Police, but after that he had a career that resembled a leaf in the wind - being a caretaker, deputy sheriff, lobster fisherman, maintenance man, Maine guide and code enforcement officer. His other source of pride was his family, though he was never able to recover after the loss of his grandson, Andrew Hutchins, in combat in Afghanistan. In his last 10 years, he spent time between his home in Blue Hill and his camp in Grand Lake Stream. On the stream, he became a well-known sight sitting in a chair by the Cable Pool. What he knew about fly fishing could be written on the head of a finish nail, but he talked a good game.
Lew was predeceased by his parents, Aury and Winnifred Hutchins of Bucksport. He is survived by three sons: Greg and Deirdre Hutchins of Winthrop, Chris and Dot Hutchins of Vassalboro and Jeff and Betsy Hutchins of Greene. He has grandchildren, Celia Wilson, Jennifer Laney, Travis Hutchins and Ben Hutchins, along with a great-grandchild, Allyssa Hutchins. His sister, Dorothy Harriman of Bucksport, assisted him to remain at home as long as possible and this brought them closer. He also has sisters, Joanne Bosse of Old Town and Jolene Simmons of Old Town.
He collected many friends, namely Doug Stover of Blue Hill and Chester and Richard Lay of Massachusetts, a host of Soucies, various drinking buddies and local liars and riff raff from Downeast Maine.

Kathy was born on August 30, 1958, in Castine, her parents were Dana Jones and Barbara (Perkins) Jones. Kathy was a Bucksport High School graduate class of 1976. Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth Gray; daughter, Adele K. Simpson and partner, Mark Thomas, of Stockton Springs; and son, Bryan 'Buzz' Simpson and wife, Meagan, of Bucksport. Kathy is also survived by siblings, Timothy Jones and wife, Debbie Z. Jones, of Carmel, Fawn Paradis of Smithfield, Carl Jones and husband, Gavin Garland, of MDI. Kathy is also survived by her grandchildren, Hunter Berzinis, Dana Berzinis, Ella Simpson and Ava Simpson. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. Kathy was predeceased by her father, Dana Jones; mother, Barbara Jones; brother, Colin Jones; and brother-in-law, John Paradis. As a child, Kathy grew up on the family farm in Penobscot. The family then moved to Bucksport on the Bucksmills Road, and created childhood memories and bonds with the Wardwell's. She was also involved with 4H, which sparked her interest of sewing. She enjoyed sewing quilts. She did a lot of babysitting during her high school years and worked at Crosby's. Kathy worked for the John R. Crooker Agency under Caroline Crooker for many years. She left and went to work for the Roland Grindle Agency, where she stayed until she retired. She enjoyed camp on Toddy Pond with her husband, Kenny, especially sunset cruises in the boat. Kayaking, swimming and taking pictures of the Loons was also something she enjoyed. Kathy was the Secretary of the Family Snowmobile Club of Bucksport. The light of Kathy's life were her grandchildren, Hunter, Ella, Dana and Ava. A perfect day would be at camp on Toddy Pond with her husband, children and grandchildren. In 2019, she wanted a family vacation to Florida and she got it, that trip was a highlight over the last few years."
