Also called rey García V Sánchez 'el de Nájera' de Navarra. García IV Sánchez 'el de Nájera', rey de Navarra was born circa 1010?. He was the son of Sancho III 'el Mayor', rey de Pamplona y conde de Aragón and Gaya of Gascony. He received Navarre and the Basque provinces from the division of his father's kingdom in 1034. King of Pamplona in Navarre, Spain, between 18 October 1035 and 1054. He married Estefania de Foix, daughter of Bernard Roger I, comte de Couserans, de Foix et de Bigorre and Gersinde, comtesse de Bigorre, in 1038. He among the Christian Kings who took advantage of the fragmentation of Islamic power, by first establishing suzerainty over the Party Kings (mulúk al- tawâ'if) by exacting tribute and then by renewing the conquest of Islamic territory. In the central and eastern regions the movement began when Navarre captured Calahorra in 1045. He died on 15 September 1054 in Atapuerca. Killed in battle against his brother, Ferdinand."
