He was born in Castine, Nov. 15, 1946, the son of Bruce A. and Elaine C. (Gray) Austin. David attended George Stevens Academy, graduating in 1964, and NMVTI in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966-1969 in Vietnam. He married Lois Dow on Sept. 4, 1970. David worked at Callahan & Kerr American mines, Devereaux Marine, Maine Maritime Academy, Ken Jones & Sons Carpentry and Snows Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of the Ira Berry Masonic Lodge, Gov. Brooks Lodge No. 142 IOOF, Brooksville Volunteer Fire Department and Brooksville Historical Society. He was a Registered Maine Guide and taught hunter safety courses. He enjoyed local history, genealogy, hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Jennifer Dyer and Bruce Austin; grandchildren, Blaine Dyer, Addison and Mallory Austin; and sister, Jane Austin. He was predeceased by his parents."
