[20465] James M. Scruggs states that Joseph was born near Winchester, VA and gives their parents as shown here. Joseph's memorial at www.findagrave.com offers: "Virginia's father was always very much interested in politics, was an ardent states rights man, and an intimate friend of John C. Calhoun. He, at one time, was a candidate for the state legislature, but whether elected, I am not certain. He had been a carpenter by trade, but taught school in the then thickly settled community, including Greek and Latin in the curriculum of the country district. I have heard my Mother tell how the classes studied out under the trees, and the discipline must have been in keeping more with modern ideas than the switch and ferule of that day, for the kind hearted Quaker ruled without severity. He was much honored by his family, although he died in 1842, leaving a large number of his children to be brought to maturity by their energetic Mother. The majority of the five sons secured a college education, William Brawner Cooper graduating at Columbia College, Washington D. C. and entering the Baptist ministry. He [son William] was at one time pastor of the Augusta, Georgia church, and organized afterward the General Association of Florida and was its moderator until his death."

Fuhrman, who died of a heart attack at his home, 408 Claremont avenue, Monday at 7 a. m., will be held Wednesday at 3 p. m. at the home. Burial will be in the Ashland cemetery. Mr. Fuhrman would have celebrated his 61st birthday anniversary today. After graduation from Zanarian Art college at Columbus and attending Oberlin college he taught penmanship. He was affiliated with the F. E. Myers and Bro. company for 16 years. He married Miss Effie Myers May 17, 1898. He was a member of the Methodist church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Effie Fuhrman; one daughter, Mrs. F. E. Barton of Boston, Mass., and two brothers, Austin R. and A. C. of West Salem."

Snowman, Sr , 70, of Roaring Brook Road, Eastbrook, and 5 Mayflower Dr., Scarborough, died Aug. 3, 2000, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a long illness. He was born in Orland, the son of Frederick and Dorothy Saunders Snowman. He attended Orland and Bucksport schools, Husson College, and the University of Maryland. Mr Snowman, a patriot, entered the U.S. Army Air Force in 1947 and retired in 1967. He served on the Berlin Air Lift, in the Korean War, Iceland, France, and the Vietnam War. Mr. Snowman served as the Air Force recruiter for York County in Maine, recruiting pilots, engineers, lawyers and other professionals, for a total of 650 personnel for the U. S. Air Force. Mr. Snowman was recognized by the courts and nationally as an expert on worker's compensation matters for the National Council on Worker's Compensation, retirng in 1995. In 990, Mr. Snowman and legal council organized the first Fraud and Abuse Unit for the Maine Worker's Compensation Commission, serving as supervisor and fraud investigator. Mr. Snowman was a Master Mason in Lygonia Lodge No. 40 AF & AM and Hancock County Shrine Club of Ellsworth, a York Rite Mason and a member of the Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Alice Gabriel Snowman of Eastbrook and Scarborough; sons, Frederick M. Snowman ond Michael J. Snowman of Scarborough, John B. Snowman of Dallas, Texas; and daughter, Barbara Snowman Leonard of Albuquerque, N M..; five grandchildren, Michelle and Jennifer Snowman of Scarborough, Samantha, Kimberly and Jack Snowman of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Joyce Tripp of South Paris and Joanne Schilling of Rockledge, Fla ; and his mother, Dorothy Saunders Billings"
