William Dum, Sr., of this place departed this life on Wednesday, November 27th, 1901, aged 77 years, 10 months and 16 days. His remains were interred in the Evangelical cemetery here, and his funeral sermon was preached by Rev. J. H. Hertz from tbe scriptural text : 'He CallethThee." The pall bearers were Solomon Reed, John Stambaugh, James Messimer and Thomas Gray. Mr. Dum was the last survivor of a family of thirteen children. He was married four times, his first wife being Miss Sallie Smith; the second, Mrs. David Grove, nee Mary Rice; the third, Mrs. Susan Hollenbaugh, nee Miss Kern, and the fourth Mrs. Hassinger. His last wife was married three times, first to Henry Shearer, second to Mr. Hassinger and the third time to Mr. Dum. She was a daughter of Samuel Perry, who died some fifty years ago. Mr. Dum connected himself in his early manhood with the Evangelical church and died with the blissful hope of enjoying glorious immortality. He was for a half century one of the most successful veterinary surgeons in the county. He enlisted as a soldier in the Civil war in 1864, and served in Co. E. of the 208th Regiment of Pennsylvania Volunteers, and was made a corporal. He participated in a number of battles. Mr. Dum was a kind good hearted and sympathetic man."

Ella Robbins of Worcester, Massachusetts; and Juliet S. Douglass of Castine. Their father, Eliakim Wardwell (12/30/1802 - 12/06/1864[sic]), was a ship captain. He owned the 'Saphronia" that was built near Castine."
