[47265] Find A Grave memorial 51798835 offers Arnold's obituary: "Penobscot - Arnold Jasper "Bing" Gross, 75, passed away June 20, 2006, at his home. Born Dec. 24, 1930, to John and Lora Hutchins Gross, he spent his entire life in the town he loved. As a young man, Bing worked in the brickyard and peat bog and graduated from Clark High School in 1948. He was a member of Rising Star Lodge No. 177 for more than 50 years. After marrying in 1950, he started as a laborer at the St. Regis paper mill in Bucksport. Moving through a series of departments, he became a laboratory technician and manager of the wastewater treatment plant before retiring in 1993. While at the mill, Bing served as president of the local paper workers union for three terms and became vice-president of the Maine District Council of Pulp and Paper Unions. These union activities led to his involvement in the Maine AFL-CIO as a member of the executive board and as the founder and first director of the Employee Assistance Program for Maine. Bing also served on the board of trustees for the Seaboard Federal Credit Union. Bing was a friend of Bill W. for 34 years and that experience prompted him to strive to help others. He served on the board of directors of the Maine Chapter of the National Council on Alcoholism, NCA and the labor committee of the national Association of Labor and Management Administrators and Consultants on Alcoholism, ALMACA, where he was instrumental in developing programs for women in the workplace and for the prevention of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. In 1981 he was appointed by Gov. Brennan to the Governor's Advisory Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Bing's involvement in this community culminated with his appointment as director of the Eastern Regional on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Bing became a selectman of Penobscot in 1985 and continued to serve the people of his beloved hometown until his death. He was also a member of the Maine Municipal Association and more recently served as a member on the Hancock County Budget Advisory Board. He also enjoyed his role as volunteer dispatcher for the Penobscot Fire Department. Bing was an avid and creative woodworker, had an encyclopedic knowledge of World War II, and often recounted a never ending series of stories about Penobscot and its townsfolk. He enjoyed nothing more than observing the abundant wildlife on his back lawn and teaching his grandchildren the glories of life in rural Maine."
