[38304] "The Boston Globe [Boston, Massachusetts], 21 July 1924, p. 16: "Word was received hero that George G. Hackett, father of Fred H. Hackett, postmaster of Wakefield, died at Sunapee, N. H. today, after a long Illness. The senior Mr. Hackett was born In Newport, Vt. and when about 12 years of age moved with his parents to Boston. In his early years he received a training In the wholesale fruit and produce business and later entered this line in Boston and New York. In 1885 he settled in Wakefield and was well known throughout the vicinity. Mr Hackett had a hobby on refrigeraton and some time ago went to the State of Washington, where he put his ideas into effect. He was the first man to have a shipment of salmon sent to the East without having the cargo repacked and reiced. Until 12 years ago he took an active part in business affairs, but then resigned to give all his attention to his little farm which overlooked Lake Sunapee. While a resident of Wakefield he gained considerable publicity by supplying light and heat for his home by the means of a home-made water gas equipment. Besides his son, the local postmaster, and his widow, Mr. Hackett leaves three daughters, Mrs. Charles Jordan of East Braintree, Mrs. Maude S. White, wife of Dr. White, well-known ear, throat and nose specialist of Brookline, and Mrs. George K. Way of Lincoln, Me. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed, but burial will be in the local cemetery. "
