Rines, went home to be with her Lord and Savior July 18, 2010, surrounded by her loving family at her home. She was born Jan. 12, 1929, in Carmel, daughter of the late Eugene A. and Dorothy M. (Mayhew) Ross. She was raised in Levant, one of 17 children. Vivian and Henry were married Dec. 5, 1947, and lived most of their lives in Newburgh. She was a Christian lady and a member of Hermon Baptist Church. During her life she cared for private and foster children. She enjoyed NASCAR racing, especially No. 24 Jeff Gordon. Vivian's focus in life was always on her family. She will be remembered as a loving, devoted, generous and selfless mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Vivian is survived by one daughter, Gloria J. Jellison and husband, Royce, of Saco; two sons, Dennis D. Rines and wife, Janice 'Jan,' and Ricky S. Rines and wife, Loretta, all of Newburgh; four grandchildren, Aaron Jellison, Wendy Daigle and husband, Rick, Elizabeth Deane and husband, Ryan, and Craig Rines and wife, Heather; four great-grandchildren, Abigail Daigle, Brianna Rines, Brock and Trent Deane; many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband in 1992; by their daughter, Deborah Rines, in 1977; by four brothers; and one sister."

She was the daughter of the late Foster and Susan Grubb Sheaffer who resides in Centre township. The deceased was born in Juniata township and was aged 49 years. The following survive: her husband, G. W. Thebes; three sons, Henry F., of Newport ; Gustave R., of New Bloomfield, and Darwin K., at home; four daughters, Hilda E. Shutt, of Harrisburg; Geraldine S. Johnson, of Elliottsburg; Lillian I. Weibley, of New Bloomfield, and Beatrice E., at home; her mother, Mrs. Susan Sheaffer, of Newport, R. D. 2; a sister, Elsie S. Pentz, also of Newport, R. D. ; four brothers, William E. Sheaffer, of New Bloomifield; Norman C, of Newport, R. D. ; Robert M., of Manheim, and Porter, of Newport; also eleven grandchildren, nine of whom are surviving." A Salome Sheaffer is listed as a daughter, age 3, in the 1900 federal census in Juniata Twp., Perry Co., PA in the household of Martin Burd (age 40, b. in PA) and wife Annie (age 41, b. in PA) along with "mother Sarah Sheaffer" (age 59). Salome's marriage record states she is daughter of Foster D.
