She was born Nov. 18, 1924, daughter of Forrest and Christy (Robins) Bray. Zella worked at Stonington Packing Co. for a number of years. Then she relocated to Ledyard, Conn., where she worked at Connecticut College until she moved to Maine in 2000. She enjoyed going to church on Sunday, walking her dog, Max, and volunteering at the local food pantry. She is survived by one sister, Laura Hutchinson of Deer Isle; and three children, Roger Haskell and his wife, Ida, of Deer Isle, Selene Hardy and her husband, Larry, of Stonington, and Glen Haskell of Norwich, Connecticut. She is also survived by six grandchildren, William Haskell of Stonington, Michael Haskell of Stonington, Jessica Gaffen and her husband, Adam, of Casco, Jennifer Vaughn and her husband, David, of Otis, Janice Hardy and Ricky of Deer Isle, and Jillian Jones and her husband, Cody, of Deer Isle; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Catilyn, and Sam Gaffen of Casco, and Natalie Jones of Deer Isle. She had many nieces, nephews, cousins, church and other friends. In addition to her parents; and her husband in 2002, she was predeceased by one brother, Russell Bray; and two sisters, Annette Weed and Mary Wiberg of Stonington. A graveside service will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, March 25, at Mount Warren Cemetery, Deer Isle."

[58361] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]." 1 January 2025: "Orono - Janice Robinson Palmer of Houlton died Dec. 24, 2024, in Orono a few days before her 100th birthday. Janice was born Jan. 12, 1925, in Houlton, the only child of Joseph Robinson and Hazel Turner Robinson. She married Rodney Palmer, an accountant from Island Falls, in 1945, and they spent their lives in Houlton, sharing a love of music and their camp on Nickerson Lake. From an early age, Janice had a beautiful soprano singing voice, which she combined with endearing wit and showmanship to entertain others. As a youngster, she performed in Houlton Lions Club variety shows. Later, she regularly sang at weddings and funerals. She was active in the Houlton Community Chorus and played the title role in the musical "Mame" in a community production in the late 1960s. Janice also worked with the Community Concert Association to bring professional musical performances to Houlton. Janice graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in 1943. During World War II, she worked as a secretary for the Border Patrol. After raising two children, she was a secretary in the office of the Houlton superintendent of schools. In their later years, Janice and Rod spent winters in St. Petersburg, FL. Janice lived her final two years at Dirigo Pines, a retirement community in Orono. Janice is survived by her two children, Susan and her husband, Daniel Haney, of St. Petersburg, FL, and Boothbay, and Kent and his wife, Dorothy Benn Palmer, of Winterport. Janice also leaves two grandchildren, Joshua Palmer of Winterport, and Nicholas Palmer and his wife, Jessica, of Hampden; granddaughter-in-law, Tiffany Palmer of Old Town; brother-in-law, Malcolm Palmer of Island Falls; as well as four great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Avery, Aiden, and Emma. She was predeceased by her husband, Rodney; and her grandson, Christopher. The family wishes to thank her caregivers at Dirigo Pines, Visiting Angels Toni and Debbie, and her special nurse, Barbara Snow."
