"The Patriot News [Harrisburg, PA], 4 August 2008" published his obituary: "Elizabethville - Marlin 'Junior' Shade, Jr., 76, of 186 Woland Road passed away peacefully Saturday, August 2, 2008 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Marlin was born Saturday, September 17, 1931 in Gratz, PA, son of the late Marlin and Erma Huntzinger Shade. He was preceded in death by son Randy and daughter Stacey and his brother Jack. Marlin graduated from the Gratz High School, class of 1948 and Harrisburg Barber School. He was an employee of the former Muskin Shoe Co. in his early years. He later was self-employed as a barber in Millersburg, and with his wife Anna, owner of The Valley Inn, Loyalton. Marlin was a well known local musician, getting his start with Al Shade & The Short Mountain Boys. He then formed his own band, The Vagabonds, who were popular throughout the midstate for many years. In addition to his love of music, Marlin was an avid golfer and former member of the Silver Stragglers Golf League. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Millersburg and was currently a member of Millersburg Moose Lodge #59 and the Upward Investors Club. Marlin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Anna E. Shade and his children, Sandra Dinger and husband Dennis of Harrisburg; Steven Shade and his wife Vicki of Millersburg; Sherri Troup and her husband Wayne of Halifax; and Scott Shade and his wife Jill of Elizabethville; his grandchildren, Brian and wife Melissa, Kimberly and Christina Dinger; Ashley, Alyson and Brett Shade; and Nicole and Jennifer Shade; and brothers Robert Huntzinger of Fountain and Allen Shade of Myerstown."
