[8567] "News-Journal [Mansfield, OH], 20 June 1979," p. 15: "SHELBY - Newton J. Briner, 83, London East Rd., died in Shelby Memorial Hospital Tuesday night following a long illness. He was born in Jackson Township April 29, 1869, and spent his entire life in the Shelby area. He retired in 1961 from Shelby Business Forms where he had been a press operator. He was a veteran of World War I, serving with the Army in France. He attended the Taylor Town Community Church. He was a member of the American Legion and the Golden Age Club. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Young Briner; one son, William of Miller Rd.; two stepsons, Thomas Kaler of Ceder Grove, N.J., and James Kaler of Toledo; one daughter, Mrs. Earl (Nancy Lou) Davis of Orangeville; eight grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Taylor Town Community Church by the Rev. Joel O'Broctea and the Rev. Lee Hiney. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion."
