[57597] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 18 August 2020: "Patten - Marilyn Lee (Elwell) Somers 'Minu', 82, of Patten, passed away Friday, August 14, 2020, in Houlton. Marilyn was born in Stacyville on April 25, 1938, to John and Pearle (Clockedile) Elwell. She was the valedictorian of the Sherman High School class of 1955 and graduated from Husson College in 1956. She married Robert E. Somers on December 31, 1956. At age fourteen, Minu became the pianist and later the organist at the Washburn Memorial Church, and later became organist and pianist at other churches in the area. Many local students got their musical start through piano lessons with Marilyn. She sang with The Good News Singers, a local gospel group. Marilyn was active in many church and community organizations. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, Bobby, in 1979, and their sons Barry, in 1997, and Glenn, in 1979; her parents; and a brother, Robert E. Elwell. The people who have known and loved Marilyn throughout her life are many. Among her family who will miss her dearly are her grandson, Michael Somers, wife Bekah of Lebanon, Illinois, and great-grandson Crosby; daughter-in-law, Beth Somers of Patten and grandson Bradley Hotham. She is also survived by a sister, Anita Mountain and husband Carrol of Lakeland, Florida; two brothers, Keith Elwell and wife Marion of Readfield, and John Patrick Elwell and wife Pam of Smithfield. Also surviving and brother-in-law Richard Somers; sisters-in-law Ann Marie Elwell, Sadie Heath and husband Wayne, Vicki Richardson and husband Steve, Lois Somers, and Glenda Somers; an aunt, Angeline Strait; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. During her illness, her mind frequently took her back to Christmas on the Elwell farm, where there were singalongs of Christmas carols. When we come to another Christmas season, we ask that you sing a carol in her memory and we believe that Minu will be joining you in song."
