[2151] Ralph followed Duke William, whom his father had served, to England and became an important landowner in the March of Wales after the rebellion of Earl Roger of Hereford, 1075, receiving many of the Hereford lands including the castle and town of Wigmore (thereafter the chief seat of the family). The Domesday Book indicates that Ralph was one of the richest tenants in chief in northern Herefordshire and southern Shropshire. {-Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1956 edition, 15:827} See "Medieval English Ancestors of Certain Americans," Carl Boyer III (Santa Clarita, CA, 2001), p. 166.
