[36505] This person is from the unverified Mottern Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2014. Ancestry.com offers: "George Name Meaning - English, Welsh, French, South Indian, etc.: from the personal name George, Greek Georgios, from an adjectival form, georgios 'rustic', of georgos 'farmer'. This became established as a personal name in classical times through its association with the fashion for pastoral poetry. Its popularity in western Europe increased at the time of the Crusades, which brought greater contact with the Orthodox Church, in which several saints and martyrs of this name are venerated, in particular a saint believed to have been martyred at Nicomedia in ad 303, who, however, is at best a shadowy figure historically. Nevertheless, by the end of the Middle Ages St. George had become associated with an unhistorical legend of dragon-slaying exploits, which caught the popular imagination throughout Europe, and he came to be considered the patron saint of England among other places. As an American family name, this has absorbed cognates from other European languages, including German Georg and Greek patronymics such as Georgiou, Georgiadis, Georgopoulos, and the status name Papageorgiou 'priest George'. In English-speaking countries, this surname is also found as an Anglicized form of Greek surnames such as Hatzigeorgiou 'George the Pilgrim' and patronymics such as Giorgopoulos 'son of George'."

[53172] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]." 27 August 2021: " Wappingers Falls, NY - Ann Bragdon, 87, of Wappingers Falls, NY, passed away at Vassar Brother's Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Thursday, February 18, 2021. She was born in the small logging town of Eagle Lake, Maine, on June 15, 1933, the oldest of three children of Claude and Cynthia Martin (nee Clavette). Ann attended primary school in the town's one-room schoolhouse heated by a single wood stove. Her high school years were spent at a boarding school in Portland, Maine. In those days, she would skate on the lake in the winter and dance to the Lindy, a craze at the time. She went on to marry James Gilchrest Bragdon and raise three children, eventually moving to New York and studying French and Education at Albany State College. Ann had a long career as an elementary school librarian in the Wappingers Falls (NY) school district, a job that she absolutely loved. She also enjoyed many creative pursuits and was a life-long learner. She was an expert at crossword puzzles and spent many hours playing bridge with her friends. However, it was her love of children, books and education and most importantly, her unwavering support of her family that she will be remembered for. Ann is survived by her three children, Susan Brocker, Steven Bragdon, and Stuart Bragdon; three grandchildren, Michael and Peter Brocker, and Emma Bragdon; as well as one great-grandson, Ethan Brocker. Ann was predeceased by her two younger brothers, Robert and Glenn; and former husband, Jim."
