[11984] Mansfield News-Journal, 16 March 1943, p. 2: Elson Helchel, 69, died early to. day at his home, 41 Chestnut street, after a brief illness. Born in Ashland county, Mr. Heichel came to Mansfield at an early age, having resided here since that time. He was employed at the Tappan Stove company for the past 49 years. He had been a member of the First Lutheran church for the past 40 years. His survivors include his widow, Catherine: one daughter, Mrs. Glenn Mowry, of Canton; one granddaughter, Mrs. Richard Darling. Mansfield; six brothers, A. G. Heichel and Ray Heichel, of Mansfield, Loin Heichel, of Springfield township, Jay Heichel, of Crestline, and Joseph Heichel, of Washington:. one sister, Mrs. Nora Barr, of Mifflin; four half-brothers William, James and Harry Heichel of Mansfield, and Elmer Heichel of Kentucky, and one half-sister, Mrs. Clifford Wharton of Mansfield.

[1227] Eliakim was selectman at Sandwich for 12 years and served on the committee "to supply the pulpit" in 1722. He owned much land and was a "shopkeeper". He did not agree with the doctrine preached in the congregation, and on 13 April 1732 was one of two contractors who built a new meeting house for the opponents of the established minister.
