[44160] Margaret's death certificate reports: "Father: John Bousom, born Elliottsburg, PA; mother: Eliza Flickinger, born Ickesburg, PA" "The Perry County Democrat [Bloomfield, PA], 17 October 1928," p. 3: "Margaret Jane Loy passed away at her home in Ickesburg, Saturday night, the 13th, about 1.20 o'clock, just as the Sabbath day was coming in. The immediate cause of her death was chronlic asthma. She became ill Mondav night, previous and was a constant sufferer until death came to her relief. Mrs. Loy was the daughter of John and Eliza (Flickinger) Bousum. She was born at Ickesburg. Sept. 22, 1852. On the date of her death she was aged 76 years and 21 days. She was married to Andrew J. Loy, May 10, 1883, at Loysville, by the Rev. F. Aurand. Mr. and Mrs. Loy lived most of their married life in this community. Besides her husband she is survived by one brother, David Bousum, of Harrisburg and a foster sister, Mrs. Mary Hench, of Marysville. One brother, Daniel Bousum, died a number of years ago. She joined the Lutheran church at the 'Old Buffalo Church' at Saville, in youth and has remained a faithful and consistent member. She was a woman of many excellent qualities, a true wife and an excellent neighbor. Her death will be regretted by her many friends, who extend their sympathy to the sorrowing husband and family."

[28932] Daniel Buffington purchased a sixty-acre farm during the 1860s and built a new dwelling on the land. He also purchased a saw and grist mill. In 1882 he bought more acreage of almost 200 acres. - "Comprehensive History of Town of Gratz Pennsylvania," 1997, p. 52. "The Standard [Lykens, PA], 14 August 1903," p. 1: "Daniel Buffington of Gratz, died at his home Tuesday after an illness of several months with a complication of diseases, aged 67 years. His entire life was spent in Lykens township, and was one of its most highly respected citizens. He is survived by a wife and several children and among the children is Harry F. Bufflngton, one of the clerks in the County Commissioner's office. The funeral took place at 10 a. m. yesterday, and was largely attended. Rev. Kruder was the officiating clergymen, and delivered a touching sermon in the Lutheran and Reformed church, after which interment was made in the adjoining cemetery."

[14540] In the 1830s a group of families from Stockbridge, VT moved west and settled in Illinois. The group included some Whitcomb cousins. Elias was first in the Palatine, IL area, then moved to Elgin, IL. He was a farmer and lumber dealer, and had 66 land patents in WI where he spent much time lumbering. He was commissioned by the Governor of WI to raise a company of cavalry in the War Between the States. Maplewood Cemetery Records in Stockbridge, VT state that he is buried beneath the Whitcomb monument there.
