[49887] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 15 October 1923, p. 13: "Penobscot, Oct. 13 - Seldom has this community been so shocked and grieved as on Wednesday Oct 3d, when it became known that Mrs. Nella Florence Bridges had after a brief illness of two days, passed to the Great Beyond. Mrs. Bridges was born in Penobscot thirty-five years ago, the only living daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Wardwell, and had spent her whole life here. She and Mr. Bridges were married fifteen years ago, and had lived the most of that time with her parents, both being actively engaged in an extensive market business with her father. She received her early education in the town schools, later studying in Castine Normal Training School. Mrs. Bridges was a very successful teacher in the schools here, and waa much loved by her pupils as well by a host of friends here and in the surrounding towns. She was ao cloeely associated with every activity for good in our community that her death comes as a great loss to all as well as to her family. During the World War, Mrs. Bridges was much interested in the work of the Red Cross and in any and every movement that made for the pleasure and comfort of the soldiers in active service. It was her life and she seemed the happiest when doing for others. None ever asked sympathy or charity of her but it was cheerfully and willingly given. She was a woman of sterling character, possessed a fine intellectual, was well educated, and therefore was a friend the town grieves to lose. Mrs. Bridges was an active member of Penobscot Chapter, O. E. S., and served the chapter very efficiently as Worthy Matron for three years. She waa also affiliated with the Grand Chapter O. E. S. of Maine as Grand Marshal from 1919 to 1920. She was a pleasing officer in any station, possessing a charming personality, and her works brought forth highest praise from those who witnessed it. She was a devoted wife and daughter and has tenderly and devotedly assisted in caring for her father, who has been an invalid for the past year. The husband and family are stunned by the blow that came so suddenly. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, mother and father, one brother, G. Colby Wardwell, many relatives and a host of friends who extend sincerest sympathy in their bereavement. Beloved by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance, she will be greatly missed In the community aa well as in her home. 'None knew her but to love her, None named her but to praise.' Funeral services were held from her home October 15th. . . . The Internment was in the family lot at Hillside Cemeter. . . ."
