[10541] Ernest went to Chicago, IL with his friend Harold Weed in 1938 seeking work; he met Frances there, and Harold returned to ME to marry. After his divorce from Frances, Ernest also returned to ME (1954) and married there Edith Fielding (they r. Cumberland Center, ME). Ernest may have married prior to marrying Frances - this marriage appears to have been annuled. The 6 April 1940 federal census in Ward 43 of Chicago, IL lists a Frances Peterson (age 46, b. in MN, head of houseold) with Ernest Peterson (age 31, r. in Portland, ME, clerk in a club) her "son-in-law" and the only other member of the household - was the information wrong? Find A Grave memorial 188283395 offers his obituary: "Ernest Solon Peterson, 69, husband of Edith Fielding Bean Peterson, of 180 Main St., died Monday at his home. He was born in Portland, son of Angus N and Abbie Potter Peterson. He attended Portland schools. Mr. Peterson was a member of the Masons and the OES. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Denis (Elaine) McDonough of Chicago, Ill.; a son, David Bean of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Basil R of Portland; and four grandchildren. Memorial services will be held...burial in Brooklawn Memorial Park."

[50322] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 11 February 2019": "Old Town - Alice M. Dyer, 98, passed away on Friday, February 8, 2019, at The Meadows, Old Town. She was born on June 27, 1920. She had 62 years of a loving marriage to Arnold Dyer before his death in 1999. Alice, the daughter of Grover and Edna (Nelson) Wardwell, was predeceased by her six brothers and three sisters. She was a kind, sweet and giving woman, however she spoke out for what was right long before it was popular, much to the admiration of the female members of her family. Alice loved her family, her church and God's gift of nature. Arnold and Alice made their home in Presque Isle. There they worked together to raise their family until the birth of their first grandchild, which prompted them to move to Bangor to be closer. There were a total of 4 grandchildren filling both the arms and laps of 'Nana' and 'Poppy.' Alice became a member of the United Methodist Church in 1937. She loved working in any capacity needed for God and her church. Alice taught first grade Sunday School for 12 years, was a member of the Dorcas Circle in PI, the Piburn Circle in Bangor and served as Vice President and then President of the United Methodist Women for two terms in Presque Isle. Alice and Arnold also became members of the Riverside Grange #273 of No. Brewer and Pamona #8. She served as Secretary, Chaplin and Lecturer during her involvement. Alice enjoyed gardening and grew both flowers and vegetables. Although she was a homemaker and best known for her bread making abilities, she also worked seasonally for UMaine and the USDA on potato research projects. Alice will be missed by the family she adored. She leaves behind her two daughters, Judi and Ralph Collier (Bangor) and Gail Dyer-Martin (Hollis, NH); four grandchildren, April Cottle and Tim, Matthew Collier and Kathryn Parker, Annemarie Bellavance and David, and Caitlyn Daisy and Brian; eleven great-grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as 'Big Nana' or simply 'Big,' Jacob, Ashton, Izaac, Isabella, Mason, Trey, Hendrix, Oliver, Charlotte and the twins, Alice and Piper. She was predeceased by her husband; infant daughter and son; granddaughter, Audra Collier; and son-in-law, Gary Martin. She also leaves behind her Meadows family who gave her so much love and joy these last several years. Her family is grateful for the fine care she received there, allowing her to live with companionship and pass with dignity."

[44295] Ray Kohler' files in "Kohler Klan and Kissin Kin" at https://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com offers his obituary: "Valentine Wisehaupt, of Turbett Township, died on the 21st of July [1880] and was buried in the family burial ground on his farm on the 23rd. Quite a number of people followed his remains to their last resting place. He was a connecting link between the 18th and 19th century; we have only two other links in Turbett. He was born in Lancaster County, Pa., February 22d, A.D. 1797, and was aged 83 years, 4 months and 30 days. He was married to Elizabeth Saylor, who died several years ago, aged 48 years. They had one child William Lepley residing on the farm. He came with his father (Valentine by name) to Turbett in the year 1801 when he was only 4 years old. With his father came John Bender the progenitor of all the people of that name in this Valley. Valentine, Sr., was married three times and two of this wives were sisters of the said John Bender. From these several unions they raised nine children. The subject of this sketch was the last, except for one, Mrs. Brandt, of Perry County, and was well the favorably known in this county. The Wisehaupt's, Bender's and Rice's came to Turbett Township in 1801."
