[56865] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 28 September 2021: "Coral Gables, FL - Alice Crawford, age 82, died on Friday, September 17, 2021 at the Vitas In-patient Unit at MedSquare Kendall, Florida, a hospice facility near her home in Coral Gables, Florida, where she resided for the last 30+ years, along with her cousin and dearly cherished, lifelong friend, Gary Harris. Alice liked to say 'Gary was born 2 years, 2 months, and 2 days after I was, and we've been best friends ever since.' Alice was born in Perham, Maine, March 28, 1939, the daughter of Elvin and Mary (Harris) Tupper, the sister of Annella (Tupper) Thomas (d.2016), George Tupper (d.1977), and Wallace Tupper, the mother of Susan Gibson, and sister-in-law to Linda (Ouellette) Tupper, Norma (Ouellette) Akerson, and Fred Thomas (d.2009). She is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand, great-grand, and great-great-grand, remembering each of their birthdays with love and warm wishes over the years. Alice graduated from Caribou High School in 1956, studying commercial secretarial, which launched her 52-year career as an accountant. She entered the workforce at a time when young women generally selected secretary, teacher, or nurse, choosing instead a male-dominated field where she committed herself to not only the daily work of her chosen profession, but also providing pro bono tax work for several community organizations in the Coral Gables, Florida, area, including New Life Family Center, who recognized her with an award for her outstanding community service. Even in retirement, she continued to provide tax assistance to her friends in her community. Alice was a member of the Central Christian Church in Coral Gables, Florida, where she also volunteered as a member of the finance board for 25 years, preparing budgets and issuing monthly statements for the governing board, a role in which she was recognized for her outstanding service to the church and its community. Alice had a great capacity for love for family, friends and animals. She loved to tell stories, give her opinion about local politics, and talk to, and about, her two cats, waving her arms with grand gestures, and using flamboyant words such as monstrosity. She included everyone in her conversations, whether someone new, someone she'd known all her life, or someone in between, she conversed in a way that assumed everyone knew everyone, welcoming everyone into the story."
