He was born in 1939 in Kentucky, the son of Paul and Marilyn (Miller) McElvain. William served in the US Air Force for 4 years form 1956 to 1960. He worked as a coppersmith and owned and operated Bar Harbor Weathervanes, a coppersmith and weathervane business with his family and continues now three generations strong. He was also an avid outdoorsman and hunter. Surviving in addition to his loving wife, Ellen, are his children, a daughter, Annette Dawson and family, Michael, Joey, Miranda and Julie Dawson; son, William H. McElvain, Jr and his wife, Patti and family, Joe and Kate Robinson, Danny, Sarah and Jaxson Robinson, Casey McElvain and Kyle and William H. McElvain, III; a daughter, Elizabeth Lowe and her husband, Merle and family, Chester Trundy; son, Paul McElvain and Sarah and family, Ashley Richard and Pat and Ambrielle and Samuel McElvain; son, David McElvain and his wife, Suzanne and family, Catherine McElvain and David McElvain, II; daughter, Sue Satterfield and her husband, Todd and family, Riley and Jamey Satterfield."
