[49117] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 30 October 1951, p. 13: "Pittsfield, Oct. 29 - One of the first settlers of Ashland, William D. Snowman, 80, died today after a long illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Kathleen A. Snow with whom he had made his home for the past six years. He was born Jan. 11, 1871 in Sedgwick, son of the late David Albert and Elizabeth Dodge Snowman. He spent most of his life as a farmer in the towns of Caribou and Ashland, going to Ashland as a pioneer in 1898. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Show and Mrs. Marion Clair Hart of Corinna; three sons, Millard B. Snowman, Thomaston, Vernon M. Snowman and Donald A. Snowmann both of Palmyra; four brothers, George E. Snowman and Walter A. Snowman of Caribou, Addison P. Snowman of Ashland, and Albert L. Snowman of Arkport, N. Y.; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren several nieces and nephews."
[24965] Bonnie Meyer offered via Virginia Horler: "Upon the outbreak of the Spanish-American War (Henry) enlisted and was commissioned a captain of Battery D by Gov. Budd. Upon the close of the war the battery returned to San Francisco, but Capt. Steere remained and joined the 36th Regiment and was commissioned captain by President McKinley, and later became quartermaster of the regiment and distinguished himself according to the reports of Gen. McArthur. After the war he remained in government service and organized the revenue department of Manila, of which he is chief deputy. He is married, his wife being the former Etta Palmer, and they have three sons and two daughters, one attending the University of California: Thomas, Ruth, Ned, Jack and Julia H."
