She was born January 22, 1935 in Hillsdale County, MI, the daughter of the late Frank and Esther Aldrich. She married Robert Slaybaugh on March 7, 1954 in Camden, MI. Carol was a homemaker, farmers wife, church organist and loved quilting, gardening and her family and friends. She was a member of Northpoint Community Church in Fort Wayne, IN. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Robert Slaybaugh of Auburn; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann and Bill Case of Fort Wayne, and Cathy Slaybaugh of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Robert Reppert, Matthew (Jamuna) Reppert, Mark Reppert, Jenny (Jeremy) McClain, Mindy (Lane) Gordon and Daniel (Kate) Case; nine great grandchildren. [7283] A sketch of his family is in "Biographical Encyclopedia of the Juniata Valley ..." (Chambersburg, PA: Runk & Co., 1897). George was a private in the PA Volunteers during the War Between the States - his discharge papers state he is 23 years old, 5'11" tall, has a light complexion, blue eyes, and is a carpenter. "The Perry County Democrat [New Bloomfield, PA], 20 January 1926," p. 3: "George S. Briner, Esq., a veteran of the Civil War and Register and Recorder of Perry county for two terms, died at his home in Carlisle Saturday afternoon, at the age of 85 years. The news of his death was received in Perry county with sincere sorrow. The deceased was a son of George and Magdalene (Seager) Briner and was born at Mt. Pleasant, in Jackson township, July 7, 1841. When a young man he learned the carpentering trade. After the Civil War broke out he enlisted in Company F, 208th Pennsylvania Volunteers, serving with honor from Sept 2, 1804, to June 2, 1865, participating in the battle of Fort Stedman andthe Siege of Petersburg. On his return home he engaged in farming and carpentering. On Dec. 19, 18_0, while at work building the barn of Samuel A. Johnston he fell from the roof, sustaining a compound fracture of the left leg, which left him a cripple for life. Mr. Briner was elected Register and Recorder of Perry county in 1875 on the Democratic ticket and was reelected in 1878. At the expiration of his term of office he engaged in the insurance business with his brother Daniel, first in Bloomfield and then in Newport. For many years he had been living in Carlisle, where he was an elder of St. Paul's Lutheran church. He was a man of high character and was widely known and respected. George S. Briner was married January 17, 1876, to Susan B., daughter of William and Rebecca (Balthaser) Moose. Mrs. Briner died in 1901. The surviving children are George M. and J. Frank Briner, Carlisle; W. Grier Briner, Narberth; Charles S. Briner, Detroit, Mich., and Miss Mary, at home. One sister, Mrs. Hannah M. Brown, of near Newville, is also living. The funeral was held yesterday with burial at Blain."

[2920] William owned and operated a service garage adjacent to their residence on the Akron-Canton Road a short distance from the homestead on which he was born. "The Akron Evening Times, 11 October 1920," p. 1: "William Briner, 38, Springfield rd., was found dead by his family this morning, a revolver bullet wound in his head. Briner, according to sheriffs deputies, committed suicide rather than be committed to the county jail on a charge of lunacy. Sheriff Pat Hutchinson Saturday received a report that Briner was demented, and went to the Springfield road home to take him in custody. A search of the house and vicinity failed to reveal Briner, who is thot to have been hiding. Sunday, Briner's twenty-year-old son came to the county Jail and asked the sheriff not to come for his father that day; that Briner would surrender himself Monday. This morning he was found dead. Sheriff's deputies said that, so far as is known, Briner has not previously been held on a lunacy charge. The report received Saturday was that he had been drinking and was exhibiting symptoms of insanity, the sheriff says. The dead man is survived by a wife and a son."

[55148] Caroline is daughter of William Saylor (1818-1891) & Elizabeth Kochenderfer (1823-1903). "The Perry County Democrat [New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania]," 13 November 1913, p. 13: "Mrs. Caroline Jane Harter, beloved wife of Mr. George W. Harter, died at her home on West McClure street, this place, Monday evening, at 8.35 o'clock from an attack of neuralgia of the heart. She had not been well for several years, suffering at intervals from heart trouble, but her last illness was of only two days' duration. She was as well as usual on Saturday and called on a neighbor Saturday evening. She was aged 74 years, 6 months and 10 days. Mrs. Harter was a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Kochenderfer) Saylor and was born in Sandy Hill district, April 20, 1855. She and Mr. Harter were married in 1871. Their surviving children are: Willis Harter, Youngstown, Ohio; Mrs. Annie Carl, Lemoyne; Cyrus Harter, of Bloomfield; Howard Harter, Canonsburg, Pa.; Harry Harter, Lemoyne, and Lula (Mrs. James Hoffman), Shermansdale. One sister, Mrs. Benjamin Wolfe, of Sandy Hill, is also living. Mrs. Harter was a member of the Elliottsburg Lutheran Church and was a good woman, a most kind and devoted wife and mother. Her greatest pleasure was in doing something for her husband and children, and they are greatly distressed over her death, especially her husband who keenly feels the loss of his life partner the good, true woman, who shared all his joys and sorrows. To him and the children is extended the sincere sympathy of all. Funeral services will be held at the house on Friday morning at 10.30 o'clock and burial will be in Bloomfield cemetery."
