[49477] Find A Grave memorial 65269056 offers Douglas' obituary: "Douglas E. Beal Sr., 80, died July 4, 2008, at a Mount Desert Island hospital. He was born July 25, 1927, in Manset, the son of Harvard R. and Elva L. (Spurling) Beal. In 1945 he joined the U.S. Navy in Bainbridge, Md., and served during World War II in Key West, Fla., serving on the USS Gilmore and USS Shanaclare. In 1946 he was discharged from the service in Boston. Doug then returned to high school and graduated in 1947 from Pemetic High School, Southwest Harbor. He and Joanne Helen MacLeod were married in 1950. He soon trained as an electrician with his brother-in-law, Al Vine. He managed Beal's Bowling Spa and was co-owner of H.R. Beal and Sons. Doug worked seining and as a lobster fisherman for a number of years, until a diagnosis of Meniere's disease changed his life in the 1960s. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joanne (MacLeod) Beal of Southwest Harbor; two sons, Douglas E. Beal Jr. and wife, Vicki, of Southwest Harbor and Jensen Beach, Fla., and Dickie Beal and wife, Amanda of Bass Harbor; a daughter, Janice E. Beal and partner, Karen H. Godbout, of Bass Harbor and St. Petersburg, Fla.; two brothers, Elmer L. Beal and wife, Prue, of Southwest Harbor and Harold R. Beal and wife, Marcia, of Manset; a sister, Bernice B. Stork of Mount Desert; a bro-ther-in-law, Robert C. MacLeod of Southwest Harbor; nine grandchildren, Tricia Grant and husband, Nick, Robert L. Beal and wife, Brooke, Benjamin R. Beal and wife, Ida, Kara Beal-Chambers and husband, Jeff, Shannon M. Scott and wife, Lori, Ryan P. Scott and wife, Naoko, Jennifer Wilcox, Bruce Wilcox and John P. The 1930 federal census in Juniata Twp., Perry Co., PA list Nelson, widowed, as head of family. "The Perry County Democrat [New Bloomfield, PA], 31 March 1937," p. 3: "Nelson G. B. Gabel passed away early Thursday, March 25, 1937, at his home in Juniata township, north of Milford, He was found dead in bed, due to a heart condition, with which he had suffered during the winter. Nelson Garfield Buckwalter Gabel was born May 1, 1880, a son of Jeremiah D. and Mary Ann (Stephens) Gabel. He spent his life as a farmer in the vicinity of his home. He was a member of the Milford Evangelical congregation and Oliver Grange, P. of H., for many years, and was widely known as a stock-raiser and dairyman, being active in the Perry county agricultural Association He served during the past year as township road caretaker. On Sept. 18, 1902, he married Miss Amy Laura Tressler, who passed away Aug. 22, 1920. The following survive: sons, Stanley T. and Homer T., of Newport, R. D. 1; J. Leslie, of near Hershey; a daughter, C. Janet, of Harrisburg; brotners, Harry S. and Hiram J., of R. D. 1; a sister, Carrie V., of Harrisburg, and five grandsons.
