He was born Oct. 16, 1887, here, the son of James and Adelaide (Torrey) Gerrish. Gerrish was a lobsterman. and was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Grange here. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Audrey Baer of New York City, Mrs. Geraldine Heabiland of Independence, Mo., Mrs. Queenie Joy of Franklin, Mrs. Priscilla Treat of Toledo, Ohio, and Mrs. Samantha Huff of Orrington; four sons, Leroy of Lubec, James of Walpole, Mass., William R. of New Mexico, and Hiram of Winter Harbor; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Pendleton of Worcester, Mass.; many grand- and great-grandchildren."

In 1278 he was distrained for knighthood as holding a knight's fee in Sussex. On 2 November 1281 he was pardoned for a sum taken by his father from the Sheriff of Yorkshire during the disturbances of 1265. He was summoned to Parliament from 23 September 1313 to 2 May 1322, by writs directed Johanni Marmyon or de Marmioun, whereby he is held to have become Lord Marmion. John married Isabel Peck, daughter of Alexander Peck and Unknown, after 1283 as 2nd husband."
