He was in Phildelphia County in 1749 and as early as 1751 settled in Reading which was then in York County until Adams Co. Was formed from part of York in 1800. York Co. warrant #46 for 100 a.c. in Winndsor Twp May 1762
By 1779 he had 200 a.c. in Reading Twp. At some point, his mother, Anna Justina Elisabeth, a widow, married Wentel Metzel and the couple were sponsors of the baptisms of several of Michael's children. Michael's will, written 25 May 1801-prorated 19 Nov 1801 in Adams County, mentions Anna Justina, wife of Daniel Melown. A William Melown, possibly Daniel's brother, was a witness."

Colby was born Dec. 20, 1950, in Milo, the oldest son of Raymond W. and Margaret L. (Dunbar) Welch. He was a 1970 graduate of Bangor High School. In 1973, Colby graduated with an Associate of Science degree in liberal arts from the University of Maine, then he graduated from Beal College in 1986 with an Associate of Science degree in business science and earned his third degree, a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, from Husson College in 1989. Colby's main work focus was in the mental health field. Colby married his high school sweetheart, Joanne Knight, and they were together 40 years until her passing. Colby is survived and will be deeply missed by his mother, Margaret of Bangor. He is also survived by his son, Andrew Grant; three siblings, Ron Welch and his wife, Sharon, of Rumford, Carolyn (Welch) and her husband, Paul Kelly, of Bangor, and Wayne Welch and his wife, Michele, of Hermon; nephews and nieces, David, Stacie and Samantha Kelly, Kris and Brian Welch, Zachary and Tyler Welch; several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his father, Raymond W. Welch, Colby was predeceased by his wife, Joanne (Knight) Welch, April 2, 2009. A private burial service will be in the spring at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hermon."
