Born: April 17, 1792. Death: January 22, 1874. Burial: Cornell Cemetery in Boone Township. Biographical Sketch: Isaac Cornell was born on April 17, 1792, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph and Mary (Van Kirk) Cornell. He married Priscilla Morgan and they were the parents of the following eleven children: Alvin, Morgan, Ira, Harriet, Milan, Rebecca, Lucretia, Phebe, Van Kirk, Craig, and Maria. At some point in time after his service in the War of 1812, Isaac Cornell migrated to Crawford County, Ohio. From Crawford County the Cornell family emigrated to Boone Township in Porter County during the spring of 1835, being the first permanent white settlers in that township. A newspaper item published on July 17, 1878, in the Porter County Vidette (p. 3, col. 7) states that "we remember he was a man that was loved and respected by all who knew him. He might truly be called the poor man's friend. It is said that several times he has been known to refuse to sell wheat and other produce in times of scarcity to men who had the money to pay for it, and let poor men have it who had not the money to pay for it. He said to the men who had money, 'you can buy elsewhere as you have the money to pay for it, and the poor man that is without it can't do that.' He will live in the hearts of the people for years to come.' Cornell passed away on January 22, 1874, and was buried in the Cornell Cemetery in Boone Township."

Minnie has previously been married to Randall's business associate, Dr. Francis Eschauzier (who d. ca. 1924 in Mexico City, Mexico) with whom she adopted a Mexican child, "Chica." Minnie endowed The Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation, organized in 1950, incorporated in the State of Texas as a non-profit, charitable corporation - see http://www.window.state.tx.us/scholars/mspabout.html - and established the Minnie Stevens Piper Award, a state award that recognizes outstanding college/university teaching throughout the state of Texas. His obituary in the Spanish-language newspaper: " El señor Randall G. Piper dejó de existir en esta ciudad el dia cuatro del actual, a la edad de 74 anos. Le sobreviven so hermano David Ellis Piper, su sobrina, señorita Mary Ruth Piper, ambos de Conelia, Ga., su sobrino Coronel Ellis Gardner Piper, de Miami, Florida; dos sobrinasnietas, señoras de Richard Owen, de San Francisco, California y señorita Cynthia Piper, de Miami, Florida; su sobrino Ellis Gardner Piper, Jr., y un hijo adoptivo, Willia Hall Piper, de esta ciudad.
