[38139] The "Chicago Tribune," 8 Jan 1907, p. 4: "O. W. Herrick, for Forty-six Years a Resident of Chicago, Succumbs to Rheumatism of the Heart. O. W. Herrick, president of the Avenue State bank of Oak Park, died of rheumatism of the heart last night in his home in the suburb, after an illness of three weeks. Mr. Herrick came to Chicago in 1860 and was for a time a member of the general assembly of the state. Besides a widow, he is survived by three sons, Dr. James B. Herrick, Willis D. Herrick, who is in the insurance business, and Walter D. Herrick, an attorney. He leaves also two daughters, Mrs. B. L. Goodwillie of Oak Park and Miss Julia Herrick." He was predeceased by his father, Clifford MacQuarrie, his mother, Elizabeth Strout MacQuarrie Nelson, his stepfather, Elmer Nelson, his wife, Lucille Mathews MacQuarrie, his brother, Gene MacQuarrie, and his nephew, Rodney Morse. He is survived by his sister, Myrna Thompson, his nephews, Billy and Leon Thompson and his partner, Judy, his great-nephew, Nicholas Thompson, his nieces, Annette Thompson, Kelley Wescott, Amy Mathews and Katie Parker, his brother-in-law Foster Mathews and wife, Leta, his brother-in-law, Dickie Mathews, and his sister-in-law, Gloria Bagley, and husband, Julian, as well as dear friends Debbie Parker and Linda, Nicholas Parker, whom he loved like a grandson, and all of his church family. Carroll worked at the woolen mill that is now the Mill Mall and at the machine shop that used to be in Washington Junction, before taking a janitorial position at the Hancock County Courthouse, where he worked until he retired. He will be remembered for his calm nature, his heart and his extraordinary ability to take each day as it came. Carroll didnt believe in worry or regrets, nor did he believe in belaboring an issue with conversation. He simply lived by faith in God and an unwavering trust that life will move in the direction it is meant to go."

He was a member and deacon of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had been its branch treasurer for 25 years. He sang with the City Men's Group. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, the former Doris Dexter, sons, Donald Reppert of Coldwater and Richard Reppert of California; daughters, Carolyn Biggs of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Esther Norton of Coldwater, 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren."
