Hugh Casement (Casement@t-online.de) offered via email in August, 2004: "It is said that the 'Patriots', as they called themselves (of course from our point of view they were rebels), used to meet in the Bunch of Grapes tavern, and may have planned the thing there. The landlord was Joseph Ingersoll, who had been a Lt-Col. in the French & Indian war. He m. Elizabeth, widow of Joseph Chapman, 3rd dau. of James Davenport, innkeeper and baker of Boston, eldest dau. by his late 2nd wife Sarah Franklin. Their dau. Notes: Jonathan Ogden, son of William Ogden and Nancy, was born in Charles Co., Maryland 1746. Jonathan died before April 1808 in Harrison Co., Virginia. Jonathan's Will was recorded in Harrison County, Virginia Minute Book 1807-1809, p 107 on April 18, 1808 His body was buried in Ogden Cemetery near Hutchinson, Harrison County, Virginia. He married Ann Howell about 1766 in Charles Co., Maryland. Ann was born November 18, 1747 in Charles Co., Maryland. Ann was the daughter of Paul Howell and Mary Moreland. Ann died before August 1825 in Harrison Co., Virginia. Some family history records show Ann's name as Nancy Ann. Is it possible that Nancy is a nick name. Thomas Ogden was the administrator of the estate of Ann Ogden, his mother. She died intestate and Joseph Campbell, Fielding Boggess, Charles McIntire and Benjamin Reeder were assigned by the court to inventory her estate. Joseph Campbell, Fielding Boggess and Charles McIntire prepared the inventory and submitted it to the Court on August 10, 1825. The inventory was recorded in the November 1825 Court minutes. A part of the estate were notes held on John Richardson, Sarah Martin and William R. Ogden. Jonathan took an oath of allegiance March 1778 in Charles Co., Maryland. He made a will August 13, 1807 in Harrison Co., Virginia, recorded in Will Book 1, p.373-4, April 1808. The following individuals are also linked to this event: Jacob Bigler (witness); John Righter (witness). Jonathan Ogden probably lived a simple life of growing tobacco in Charles County. During the colonial period, Charles County was a large exporter of tobacco to England through the port city, Port Tobacco. The earliest record found of Jonathan is the Census of Charles county taken at the request of the Maryland legislature. The census required a listing of all males 18 years and older and was recorded in the March 1778 Court of Charles County. At the same time of the census, Jonathan gave an oath of allegiance to the State of Maryland that is recorded in the same court action. In the Port Tobacco East Hundred district census, Jonathan is enumerated along with a Thomas Ogden. Jonathan Revolutionary War service was as a private in the Maryland Militia of the Continental Army, 1777, Capt. Benj. Cawood Company, Charles County, 26th Battalion. Jonathan leased land from James Middleton in Charles County for a period of at least from 1787 to 1793 as noted in the Middleton estate inventory. The inventory was recorded in the February 1795 Charles County Court. The rent was paid in part by currency and in part by tobacco. The rent for the year 1793 was 1400 pounds of neat tobacco. At the time that Jonathan was living in Charles County, Maryland there were several other Ogden's living in the County. In the Maryland Census of 1775-1778 Jonathan Ogden and a Thomas Ogden lived in Port Tobacco, East Hundred, Joseph Ogden, Benjamin Ogden, Henry Ogden, and William Ogden lived in other parts of Charles County. In the 1790 US Census only Jonathan and Benjamin Ogden are enumerated in Charles County. Jonathan moved with his family to Harrison County, Virginia about 1804 when he acquired land in Harrison County. He is shown with a family of 5 males and 6 females in the 1790 Maryland US Census. Jonathan, his son Thomas and son-in-law Jeremiah Robey, are listed in the 1800 Maryland Census, Charles County and his son Rode is shown in Prince Georges County Census. Jonathan and his son, Thomas, purchased a tract of land of 100 acres in Harrison County, Virginia in February 1804 from Andrew and Lydia Snyder for 100 dollars. The land was on the east side of the West Fork above the mouth of Snyder's run."
[52670] Jemima is said to be daughter of Joshua Roberts (1722-1804) & Ruth Smith (1726-1767).
