[7388] "The Perry County Democrat, 16 January 1935," p. 3: "Mrs. Mary (Briner) Minich, wife of William Minich, of Bainbridge, Lancaster county, passed away on Thursday morning, January 10, at the Lancaster Hospital. She had undergone an operation for gallstones a few days before and was getting along as well as could be expected when the end came suddenly. Mrs. Minich was a daughter of John H. and Dianna (Hollenbaugh) Briner and was born in Jackson township. She was aged 50 years, 2 months and 24 days. When about 16 years of age, she united with the Lutheran church, in Blain. April 26, 1910, she married William Minich, who survives her with four sons, Scott, Dean, Guy and Carl, all at home. She is also survived by a twin sister, Mrs. Anna Miller, of Newville, and one brother, Harry Briner, living on the old homestead at Mt. Pleasant. Four children, two sons and two daughters, preceded her to the spirit world."

[49157] The unverified file KC6Z-P4J in familysearch.org provides Samuel and offers: "Samuel Pearl (Pearl, Pearly or Perley) Kane was the oldest son (first of nine children) born to Deacon John Kane and Deborah Shackford Friend, and grew up in the Blue Hill & Surry Maine area. In the 'Biographical Review, Volume XXIX containing Life Sketches of Leading Citizens of Somerset, Piscataquis, Hancock, Washington, and Aroostook Counties, Maine' by Biographical Review Publishing Company dated 1898, the life of Samuel is basically summed up with the note that Samuel and Emma lived in Kansas and had seven children. Further research of Samuel's military record indicates that he was 18 when he enlisted in the Navy in Portland Maine on 29 August 1864 as a substitute for Charles Allen of Surry. He is described as 5-7 1/2 inches tall, light complexion, dark blue eyes and light brown hair. Samuel served as a landsman during the Civil War on the USS SABINE, USS OHIO & USS RHODE ISLAND. In 1880, Samuel and Emma lived in Bucksport with Emma's father, John W. Stover. Samuel is listed as being a sea captain, and both Samuel and Emma, and their two daughters, Lizza and Carrie, are listed as being "at sea". From the G.W.Blunt White Library, Samuel was listed as the Master of the schooner FLORENCE E. McDONALD from 1878-1883. In 1885, Samuel (age 40) and Emma (age 31) are living in Blair, Washington, Nebraska with four children: Lizzie (age 12), Carrie (age 10), Howard (age 4) and Alton B (age 1), along with Emma's brother, Newell S. Stover (age 25, farmer) and an Irish servant, Mary Reolph (age 20). Samuel is listed as being a retail grocer. By 1910, Emma is no longer listed as being Samuel's wife, and he is living in Valley Township, Scott County, Kansas working as a farmer. His new wife's name is Edna J., and a number of children and grandchildren with the last names of Ruth and Corcoran are listed as living with Samuel. In 1920, Samuel and Edna (now listed as Jennie E.) are living in Orange, Orange County, California, and Samuel is listed as being an orange and chicken farmer. One grandson, Clarence Corcoran (age 10), is living with them at the time. In 1930, Samuel and Edna are living alone in Orange, and Samuel at age 83 is still working as an orange and chicken rancher. Additional research by Linda Julien in East Layton, Utah lists Samuel's death in 1935."

He was murdered on the island of Picquigny in the Somme. In 2007 http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/NORMANDY.htm offers: "Guillaume (Rouen [900/05]-murdered Pequigny 17 Dec 942, bur ---, transferred [1064] to Rouen Cathedral). Guillaume de Jumièges names 'Guillaume et…Gerloc' as children of Rollo and Poppa. However, the 'Planctus for William Longsword', composed shortly after the murder of Guillaume, states that he had a Christian mother of overseas origin. Dudo of Saint-Quentin states that he was born in Rouen and, in a later passage, describes him as a 'young man' one year before his father's death. His father chose him as heir one year before his death. Guillaume de Jumièges records that he was born before his father's marriage to Gisela and his remarriage with Popa after Gisela's death. He succeeded his father in 931 as Guillaume I 'Longuespee' Comte [de Normandie]. He quelled a rebellion by the Viking chief Riulf after the latter besieged Rouen. In return for swearing allegiance to Raoul King of France, he appears to have been granted rights to further territory along the coast in 933, maybe the Cotentin and Avranchin. If this is correct, it would have created rivalry with the dukes of Brittany. Dudo of Saint-Quentin describes Comte Guillaume's invasion of Brittany shortly after his accession to quell a rebellion against him, and his defeat of the rebels at Bayeux. Responding to raids by Comte Guillaume, Arnoul I Count of Flanders invaded Ponthieu and in 939 captured Montreuil from Herluin Comte de Ponthieu, although it was recaptured by Comte Guillaume's forces. In 939, Guillaume joined the alliance against Louis IV King of France which was led by Otto I 'der Große' King of Germany who raided Frankish territory. Comte Guillaume, however, met King Louis at Amiens, receiving a confirmation of the grant of his lands in Normandy. Guillaume de Jumièges records that Guillaume was tricked into a meeting on the river Seine at Pecquigny by Arnoul Count of Flanders to settle their dispute over the castle of Montreuil, but was murdered on Count Arnoul's orders, recording his death on 17 Dec. The 'Annalibus Rotomagensibus' record that 'Willermus dux Normannorum filius Rollonis' was killed '943 XVI Kal Jan'. Orderic Vitalis implies that the transfer of his body to Rouen Cathedral took place after the 'the ninth year' in office of Archbishop Maurilius, who had succeeded Mauger de Normandie, which would date the event to [1064]. [m] firstly Sprota, daughter of ---. Guillaume de Jumièges records that Guillaume married 'une très-noble jeune fille Sprota…selon l'usage des Danois'. From Brittany. It is possible that Sprota was Count Guillaume's concubine rather than wife, particularly as no reference has been found to a dissolution of any marriage before she married Esperleng. She married Esperleng de Pîtres, by whom she had Rodulf [Raoul] Comte d'Ivry. m secondly ([940]) as her first husband, Luitgardis de Vermandois, daughter of Heribert II Comte de Vermandois & his wife Adela [Capet] (before 925-14 Nov after 977, bur Chartres, Abbaye de Saint-Père). Rodulfus Glauber refers to the wife of Comte Guillaume as 'sororem [Heribertum Trecorum comitem]', specifying that she was childless by her first husband, when recording her second marriage to 'Tetbaldus'. Guillaume de Jumièges records the marriage of Guillaume and the daughter of Heribert, specifying that it was arranged by Hugues 'le Grand'. The source which confirms her name has not yet been identified. She married secondly Thibaut I Comte de Blois. H, 133rd Reg. of the PA Volunteers during the War Between the States, enlisting from Centre Twp., Perry Co., mustered in as a corporal 13 Aug 1862 and mustered out 25 May 1863. "Harrisburg Telegraph, 25 March 1916," p. 8: "John A. Raudibaugh, aged 81, a veteran of the Civil War, and one of Highspire's oldest residents, died at his home, in Second street, from a complication of diseases last evening. For forty-three years he was engaged in the roofing and tinning business in Highspire. Mr. Raudibaugh was a member of the Senior Order United American Mechanics, the Improved Order of Odd Fellows and the Grand Army of the Republic. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Briner, of Harrisburg, and William, of Reading, and a daughter, Mrs. H. B. Lindemuth, of Middletown."

Dunklin, Ethel Hastings Scruggs, "Scruggs genealogy : with a brief history of the allied families Briscoe, Dial, Dunklin, Leake and Price" (New York: Laplante & Dunklin Print. Co., 1912), p. 28 states "Richard Scruggs, son of Richard Scruggs by his wife Martha, was born in Virginia, January 10, 1720. Went with his wife and five children (also eight slaves) to the Georgia Province, and settled in St. Matthew's Parish, afterward called Effingham County, 1757. He received land grants from the Colonial and State Governments from 1760 to 1768, being known thereby as a 'Headright.' He was a very prominent man and held the position of Gentleman Justice of St. Matthew's Parish November, 1764-1766."
The Georgia Gazette 30 Dec 1767 contains a notice dated 15 Dec 1767 in "Barton's Branch in St. Matthew's Parish": "Samuel Hudson informed me of a Bay Horse . . . and a Chestnut Sorel Mare. . .Whoever ownes them must prove their property before Richard Scruggs." A similar notice in this newspaper 2 May 1770 also concludes "Whoever owns the said horse may apply to and prove his property before Richard Scruggs, J.P., Black-Creek, 16 April, 1770." A newspaper notice states "To be sold, at the Exchange in Savannah, on Monday the 21st of August, for ready money, A large stock of cattle, the property of Richard Scruggs, Esq. seized on execution by Matt. Roche, Prov. Mar, Savannah, 9th August, 1769."
The Georgia Gazette, 25 Sept 1794, p. 3 published a notice from the Chathan Co. (GA) Inferior Court concerning the sale from the estate of Raymond Demere of 400 acres on the Walnut Branch in Burke Co., GA, "purchaseed by the said Raymond Demere of Richard Scruggs; also one other Tract, joining the above, purchase of Joshua Sharpe and John and William Hudson . . ." - apparently the Scruggs and Hudson families were neighbors (notice Ann Hudson m. Richard's son).
A newspaper clipping dated 7 June 1799 held by the Columbian Museum: "Died on Monday, the 20th ultimo, in Effinghm County, Richard Scruggs, aged 83 years, he was born in Virginia, and lived 46 years in this state. It is very extraordinary that where so many persons, in proportion to the popularion of the country, live to such extreme olf ages, it will not do away the prejudice of strangers against climate."
Ancestral File (LDS) gives his wife as Amy _____. Family notes, apparently by Sigsbee Scruggs, state Richard m. Ann Drury and that Richard received grants from the colonial/state government and moved to Effingham Co., GA in 1751. [Does he relate to the Robert Scruggs whose log cabin on the Cowpens Battlefield is replicated there?] Effingham County is in southeast Georgia, next the South Carolina border, twenty miles northwest of Savannah.
