"The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 2 November 1973, p. 20: "Dover-Foxcroft - Gertrude S. Leighton, 62, of 21 Lawrence St., died Nov. 1 at a local nursing home after a long illness. She was born in Monson, June 27, 1911, the daughter of Harold and Hazel Labree Stanchfield. She was a graduate of Monson Academy, Farmington Normal School and the University of Maine. She retired earlier this year after a 37 year teaching career. For many years she was an active member of the United Baptist Church contributing her time and talents as a Sunday School teacher and committee worker. She is survived by her son Patrick of Millinocket, one sister Mrs. Walter (Marilyn) Hill of Dover-Foxcroft, one brother Mr. Omar Stanchfifld of Shelton, Conn. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m from the Lary Funeral Home, the Rev. Maynard Hammond of Skowhegan and the Rev. Dana Miller of the United Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot in the Riverside Cemetery in Willimantic." Gertrude is daughter of Harold Roland Stinchfield (1888-1944) & Hazel Belle Labree (1892-1968; m. 27 December 1910 in Monson, Piscataquis Co., ME).

He left his work to go to a near by spring and immediately came back to his men. A tree which the workmen had recently cut down fell into an adjacent tree and soon left go its bearings, falling to the ground and striking Mr. Wisehaupt inflicting injuries which resulted in his death a short time afterwards."
