His mother died sometime after he was born but before 1880. He married Jessie Belle Cohorn in Jackson County in 1896. After a few kids were born, the family moved to Jasonville in Greene County, Indiana where Charley worked for the railroad all of his working years with jobs described in censuses as section hand, switch light, and track work. He worked for the Southern Indiana Railroad. The family was unharmed by the big Jasonville fire of 1914 during which the kids were very scared and hid under the bed. His life was cut short, dying in Marco, Greene, Indiana on 7 May 1924 at the age of 47 of valvular heart disease as a result of rheumatic fever, per his death certificate."
