[57127] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 4 May 2022: "Bucksport - Esther Louise Bowden passed away on April 30, 2022, following a recent decline in health, with family by her side. Over the past 20 years she had endured several cancer surgeries and treatments; always with a positive acceptance and the determination to enjoy life and remaining independent up until this past winter. Esther was born on July 14, 1935, in Harrington, Maine, daughter of Teresa and George Ames. At age 6, they moved to Bucksport, Maine, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Esther was a proud graduate of Bucksport High School, class of 1953. Her classmates remained special life-long friends. In July of that year, she married Eugene W. Bowden. For 58 years they raised a family and shared many special memories until his passing in 2011. Esther's primary focus was her family. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. Esther was an expert seamstress making beautiful clothing and quilts. In the later years when smaller projects were easier to manage, she created everything from Christmas tree skirts to tooth fairy pillows. She was an excellent cook and looked forward to all the frequent family gatherings when she would cook entire meals or more recently cooking at least one item to be able to contribute. Esther was an active volunteer for school events and fundraising for her children and grandchildren, and along with Eugene, attended many of their grandchildren's sporting events. Esther and Eugene spent many years camping, initially in Maine and New Hampshire and through the Maritime Provinces of Canada. They soon discovered their love of Prince Edward Island and would camp at Twin Shores Camping Area in Darnley for the next 40 years; eventually considering this more of a summer home when Eugene retired. Esther continued to spend time there as her children supported her camping outings for 10 more years after Eugene passed away. Their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren cherish many fond memories of the time spent together there as a family. Eugene and Esther shared their love of The Island with friends becoming part of the family. Esther was loved and will be missed by her surviving children - Stephen Bowden and wife, Juanita, Mark Bowden and wife, Delores, Craig Bowden and wife, Corinne, and Jeanna Bjorn; grandchildren - Jamie and wife, Amie, Shane and wife, Ja'Nette, Trevor and wife, Chloe, Jared and wife, Krystle, Brittany and husband, Reno, Jack and wife, Liz, Clark and girlfriend, Sydney, Greg and girlfriend, Brittany, Chris and wife Lindsey, and Tyler; great-grandchildren - Paige, Peyton, Maisie, Alyx, Sadie, Jaden, Brenna, Ethan, Beckett, Gryffin, Aiden, Chancze, Greyson, Karson, Blair, Barron; brothers - Russell Ames and wife, Kathy; Robert Ames and wife, Lorre; sister-in-law, Doris Bowden; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Eugene, Esther was predeceased by their infant son, Timothy; sister, Marguerite; brother, Arlo and Eugene's siblings - Wilfred Bowden, Leslie Bowden, Marguerite Eckert, and her husband, Philip."

[45940] Elizabeth's dates and parents are from her death certificate. "The Allentown Democrat," 30 December 1908, p. 5: "Mrs. Eliza Steinmetz, widow of Milton H. Steinmetz, died yesterday of dropsy, aged 56 years. She was taken sick on her birthday, Sept. 8, and has since been confined to bed at her boarding house, No. 116 North Sixth Street, the home of Mrs. Mary E. Voorhees. Her husband died eight years ago. For the past two years she has resided in Allentown. Mrs. Steinmetz was a daughter of the late Philip Breiner and was born on what is now the David Keck farm in North Whitehall Township. She is survived by an only son, W. E. Steinmetz of this city, and five grandchildren. The funeral will be held at noon from her late home, with services and burial at Miller's Church."
[51574] Madeline is daughter of Elmer Brooks Day (1890-1970) & Flossie May Carter (1896-1967; m. 29 January 1916 in Brooklin, Hancock Co., ME). "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 29 April 2016": "Blue Hill - Madeline Day Snow, 99, died April 28, 2016, at Seaport Village in Ellsworth. She was born in West Brooklin, July 4, 1916, the daughter of Elmer and Flossie (Carter) Day. When Madeline was an infant, the family moved to South Blue Hill, where she attended grade school and had some of her fondest memories. She often relived these memories and remembered the people who lived in their neighborhood. In 1930, they moved to South Street in Blue Hill, where she attended George Stevens Academy, graduating in 1934. After graduation, Madeline worked in the Star Store in Bangor and other jobs in Northeast Harbor. In 1937, she was united in marriage to Roy Snow of North Blue Hill. They lived most of their married lives on South Street raising two sons. These were Madelines happiest times, being a wife and mother. She was a lab technician at the Blue Hill Memorial Hospital for the Drs. Connell for several years. In 1960, she opened Madelines Fashion, a ladies clothing store in Blue Hill. It had always been her dream to have her own store and now it became a reality. Without any prior business experience, she operated the store for 25 years, retiring in 1985. Many of her employees and customers became her dear friends. In 2009, she moved to Parker Court, where she resided until her health declined. Madeline will be remembered most for her strong love of family and her eternal optimism. 'It could be worse' was her favorite phrase. She is survived by her son, Cordell and wife Sandy of Ellsworth; daughter-in-law, Rebecca of Syracuse, N.Y.; three grandsons; two granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; her oldest son, Glenn and a brother, Roger."
