Virginlia Horler notes:
900 Census in Oakand, Alameda, California ED 370 Page 3B: living with mother and two siblings, stenographer.
1910 Census in Oakland, Alameda, California Ward 7, ED 138 page 162: Sarah L. Powell, single, lived with widowed mother and brother Horace F. (enumerated elsewhere) on Hillsborough Street. She was a stenographer for a paper company.
The 1920 Census for Oakland, CA lists Sarah L. Palmer, age 36, living with her Mother, Elizabeth C. Palmer. Sarah was working as a stenographer for a public agency.
In 1930, the Census indicates that Sarah's Mother had died and that Sarah, age 45, was the head of the household. She was employed as a stenographer at the University (probably the University of California at Berkeley). The value of the real estate was $8,000 which would indicate that the home was larger than most in that area. Sarah's aunt, Henrietta Steere, a widow age 70, was living there as well.
Henrietta, born in 1860 in (English) Canada, could be either A. W. Palmer or his wife (Elizabeth H. Call)'s sister; however I think it most likely she is the sister of George M. Annie Mary, and Alpheus W. Palmer. I think that the children's parents, George F. and Sarah Jane Palmer died in Woodstock, Carleton County, New Brunswick in 1859 and 1864 respectively. Willis Hart Palmer named a daughter Henrietta Elizabeth, and there were no Henriettas in his wife's family.
[39791] His information and wife are from an unverified file in Ancestry.com in 2015 which states that he m. Anna Otillia Schneider (1701-1796), that he arrived in PA in 1742 and that his parents are Johann Bernhard Schaffer (1667-18 Feb 1742) and Anna Margaretha Martzloff (1665-2 Feb 1725).
[55343] Rebecca is said to be daughter of John Smith (1712-1791) & Rebecca Day (b. in 1721; m. ca 1741 in Gloucester, Essex Co., MA).
