[2035] Cantabria is a region on the north coast of Spain near Santander and Bilbao, and the mountains behind. It is named for the ancient tribe, Cantabri, savage and untamed, who defied the Romans from 150 B.C. until they were partially annihilated under Agrippa and Augustus, 29-19 B.C. and subdued. James Dow reports he m. Hermesinda of Asturias and offers her proposed ancestry at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jamesdow/s049/f969300.htm.
