[50220] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]. 18 May 2020": "Canton, GA - Retired Army 1st Sgt Porter Harris Higgins, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away at his residence in Canton, Georgia on May 12, 2020 at the age of 77. Porter was born on December 1st, 1942 in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine to Inez Pike Higgins and Arnold Norris Higgins. Porter spent his early life between NJ and East Blue Hill, Maine and attended George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill. Porter enlisted in the US Army in December of 1960, shortly after turning 18. After completing Basic Training, Porter was assigned to Fort Jackson, South Carolina. While stationed in South Carolina, Porter met and fell in love with the love of his life, Connie Rose Bradwell. After a very brief courtship, they were married on Connie's 17th birthday, September 12, 1962. Porter and Connie were inseparable during a marriage that spanned over 54 years until Jesus called Connie home on August 2nd, 2017. Over a 20-year Army career, Porter served three tours in Vietnam where he served in various capacities and ever-increasing rank in the field of aircraft maintenance. Porter retired from the Army in 1980 as a First Sergeant. In civilian life, Porter became a self-taught engineer and over the years became a sought-after gauge designer. Porter was an engineer at F&N in Columbia, South Carolina until 1989 when he and Connie relocated to Florida. After their relocation, Porter held engineering roles with Olin Ordnance, Primex Technologies and General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems. Porter designed gauges that tested the manufacturing quality of military weaponry and ammunition for the M-16 and M-1 Abrams tank, amongst other weaponry. Porter was known for his excellent work ethic, honesty, and dedication to precision until his retirement from General Dynamics in 2010, but due to the need for his highly-specialized skill set and knowledge base, he continued to do consultant work for General Dynamics through 2015. Porter is predeceased by his wife Connie and their oldest son, Tucker, who are all now together in the presence of their Savior. Porter is survived by three children, daughter Wendy Huebner of Largo, Florida, son Troy and his wife Wendy Higgins of Columbia, South Carolina, daughter Robin Catalano and her husband Richard of Canton, Georgia, 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren with more on the way, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends."

"The Oskaloosa Independent [Oskaloosa, Kansas], 1 January 1942":
The funeral service of Claire Pottorf (Mrs. John V.) McMAHON of Ness City, was held Saturday afternoon at the Gabel funeral home, and interment was made at the Pleasant View cemetery, Oskaloosa. Rev. J.H. McDONALD officiated at the service. Death occurred unexpectedly the morning of December 24 at Ness City hospital where Mrs. McMAHON had been taken several days previously suffering from lobar pneumonia. Her physician reported that the pneumonia appeared to be whipped in the lungs but the pneumococcic infection in the blood stream brought on the swift collaspe. Mrs. McMAHON's husband became ill about the time she did and was taken to the Santa Fe hospital in Topeka, where he was too weak to do more than make major decisions regarding the funeral arrangements. Mrs. McMAHON was loved and admired by all who knew her in this community, where she was reared. She was a third generation member of one of Oskaloosa's oldest pioneer families, her mother being Clarissa Briner POTTORF, daughter of Daniel BRINER, a Pennsylvanian who emigrated from Ohio to Iowa in 1850 and came to Oskaloosa Kansas in 1857. Sylvester BRINER, whose death was recored in The Independent issue of December 18, was an uncle of Mrs. McMAHON, being Daniel BRINER's eldest son. Attending the funeral of Mrs. McMAHON from out of town were Patricia and Tom McMAHON of Ness City, Mr. and Mrs. Guy EDWARDS of Las Vegas, N.M., Mrs. Elmer WILSON of Douglass, Dr. and Mrs. J.C.
