Jocelin is presumed to be a (grand)son of Athon or Athos who apparently fortified Courtenay in Gatinois about 1010. {See article in Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1956 Ed., 6:605 about this family.} http://www.pillagoda.freewire.co.uk/BOW.htm offers this unverified information; "The Courtenays whose arms were "or, a torteaux gules" (Boulogne) were descendants of Renaud or Reginald de Courtenay who witnessed a charter of Henry of Anjou at Rouen in 1151. In 1160 Reginald received Sutton Courtenay in Berkshire. They were descendants of the lords of Chateau Renard in the Loing valley, south east of Paris. Athon of Chateau Renard fortified the adjacent town of Courtenay in 1010. His grandson Joscelin went on the First Crusade with his cousin Baldwin du Bourq, Bourg or Bruges (their mothers were sisters) and succeeded him as Count of Edessa in 1118. Baldwin of Bourges (alternatively Bruges in Flanders) was a close kinsman of Eustace II, count of Boulogne and Joscelin's English kinsman Renaud bore the Bolougne arms. Pierre, Louis VII and Constance, wife of Eustace, count of Bolougne were the children of Louis VI of France - Pierre married Courtenay's daughter Elizabeth. Pierre of France and Renaud de Courtenay both bore the Boulogne arms as they picked up the count's fallen banner at Toulouse. Joscelin I of Courtenay (1118-1131) was given the castle of Turbessel or Tel Bashir in Edessa by Baldwin du Bourg in 1118 but this was retaken by Baldwin who later gave him Galilee which had been left vacant by Hugh St. Omer (Santomer or Seymour). Joscelin was taken prison by the Turks and died when a tunnel collapsed when he was watching a sapper mining a castle. His left a son Joscelin II (1131-43) who had a son also named Joscelyn III and a daughter Agnes de Courtenay."

[54455] "The Bangor Dail News [Bangor, Maine]," 29 August 2023: "Kenduskeag - It is with very heavy hearts we announce the passing of Doris F. Bowden (Smith) on the morning of August 27, 2023, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor. Doris was born on March 16, 1935, to Cleveland and Ethel Smith in Charleston, Maine. After graduating from East Corinth Academy, Doris met the love of her life Wilfred 'Bud' Bowden and they built a wonderful life in Kenduskeag, raising 3 children; Dennis, Karen, and Rick. They were very happy and proud of their family, always supporting baseball, basketball games, or cheering competitions. Bud and Doris made lifelong friends in town and served as Town Clerk and Tax Collector for many years. They were members of the Kenduskeag Union Church always volunteering to help with church suppers and also the food pantry. Doris was a very good cook and will long be remembered for banana bread that seemingly cannot be replicated. She was also talented with knitting and crocheting, as attested by her collection of yarn and the beautiful handmade items her loved ones received. They were avid Maine Hockey fans and were season ticket holders for many years. Doris was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Bud; and six siblings, Cliff, Clayton, Chet, Ken, Dana, and Fern. In 2003, she experienced the pain of losing her daughter, Karen, an impact felt during the remaining years of her life. Doris is survived by her children, Dennis, Rick, and his wife, Gina; grandchildren, Andrew, Danielle Neal, and her husband, Ben, and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Brooke Bowden, Olivia and Kira Neal. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, Gram, Mimi, or Mamie by all of us. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff of the Maine Veterans' Home for their kindness and compassion in caring for Doris over the last two years."
